Somehow I don't think that

Somehow I don't think that was relaxing. lol. Great comic Ang. Thank you so much I needed a laugh today. Went to my cardiologist and got great news, he don't want to see me for three months, my numbers were good. Just have to keep getting my weight down.

Oh but it's hilarious

The really funny thing is, I know of a guy (I know him personally) who shall remain nameless so I don't get killed deader than dead, who married a woman and he wanted kids. Never understood why she never got pregnant. Finally insisted that they go to the doctor so she confessed to having originally been a he. He's not married to her any more and he and his wife have a very stunning daughter. Poor guy didn't ever figure it out on his own though. The surgeon must have done a marvelous job of transformation down there. it's really a shame someone can't invent a pill that would allow a transgender person to actually change into what they feel they should be. I hope they do someday. it will probably happen about the same time they invent a pill that will heal your body back to what it was when you were physically 20 (or thereabouts). Just have to make sure no one takes the first one while pregnant. That would be bad.

Not a pill

But 3d printing of organs might do it. Been mulling over such a story. Probably at least 50 years away, realistically but who knows?

Narrowly, yes

But so far 3d printing has been used almost entirely for support material like bone, cartilage and some muscle -- not for functional organs like livers, kidneys, ovaries or even skin. The nearest has been a bladder but again this was mostly support material with a lining grown on it using more standard growth technology. I think skin will be next but the real breakthrough will probably be with 3d printed nerves for the repair of things like damaged spinal cords.

Printed livers and kidneys will make transplant rejection much less important since the patient's own tissues can be used once the stem-cell capabilities are mapped out.

Trouble losing weight? Get an implant of modified brown-fat to burn excess calories. Want larger breasts? "Photoshop" your own tissues! No one need be bald and skin and hair color can have designer possibilities -- paisley, anyone?

I've got this story partly written, combining 3d printing with nanotech, it's called, "Not Exactly the Lone Ranger" but I haven't worked on it since August, 2013. Maybe someday.

Hugs,
Erin

Your friend's story is sad too in a number of ways

If he loved her he still had to choose to divorce her if he wanted biological children from his wife if adoption or the use of a surrogate was not acceptable. I am pretty sure a couple planning to get married would have discussed the matter and it is shameful of her not to let somebody she loved out of their relationship so they can have such an essential need met. She tried to go stealth I guess but as we all know that is a heavy burden to do so.
