On an impulse I decided to make a change and set a small portion of my latest work Battle for Earth in the region surrounding the Canadian Rockies specifically the particular stretch in the south-western corner of Alberta. Although I'm somewhat well traveled within the United States, my journeys have not yet taken me outside of our borders. So, I'm hoping someone here could help me with that particular deficiency. I've found quite a lot about plant and wildlife in that area and I think I got a pretty good handle on that particular aspect of the region, but I'm wondering what the weather is like particularly during early-to-mid August. I also have a more specific question in mind, but I'm wondering if it might be better to resolve that one via pm as it would involve revealing a very minor spoiler.
Any help would be appreciated and I will warn you all in advance I may pm commenters for more information.

Check the climate for Montana as it is due south of Alberta. Also chack a large road atlas like the ones from Wal-mart, as this can provide you with actual names and roads in that area for your story. I hope that helps.
This is a science-fiction
This is a science-fiction yarn set over 200 years in the future so unfortunately whatever information a road map might provide probably wouldn't be very helpful. Most of the travel in this story takes place by ship and when they stop in Canada... well let's just say there isn't much in the way of civilization there for them to interact with. Still, the roadmap thing is a good idea I think I'll have to remember that for future tales it could come in handy. Thanks! :D

Weather in southern Alberta
is, in a word, erratic. I'm from Edmonton, myself, and usually grateful to be north of most of Mother Nature's worst mood swings. I've driven to Calgary wishing my car had floats, and back grateful for tire chains. The running joke is "If you don't like the weather, just wait ten minutes ... it'll change."
Late August has been everything from snow to grassfire-inducing heatwaves. Granted, it tends to the latter, but just about anything short of typhoon or tsunami could be readily accepted as "just one of those days".

I'm just curious. I'm sure since the weather seems to be so erratic that rain is pretty common in early-mid august and that sudden shifts are also common, but if it were to rain does it tend toward a certain type of rainfall (ie deluge/heavy downpour, sprinkling, light rain, etc)?

I think I've figured out how to ask for the information I need without giving anything away so forgive me if this seems like a rather odd question. I'm wondering if you've spent anytime in the region surrounding the Canadian rockies... Are there forested areas with small valleys ringed by tall trees?
