I've never really kept up with a blog before, but now I feel bored enough to try. So my first topic is something completely irrelavnt to this site.
Do any of you listen to Iron & Wine? I recently bought "Our Endless Numbered Days" and "The Creek Drank the Cradle"; I have to say I've never before heard this style of acoustic finger playing described as "Alternative and Punk" before I imported the songs into iTunes. If I had to guess I would call this "Folk" before even thinking of "Alternative and Punk".
Best thing about some of these songs is that they are easy to play(Maybe not so easy to learn, but once you learn how to play them they are easy, calming and soothing.) I've learned how to play "Naked as we Came", "Radio War", and I'm working on "Passing Afternoon" (All three from "Our Endless Numbered Days").

On a more relavent note, Iv'e been forced into a haircut. Now, instead of long curly hair, I have some kind of Man Fro going on. This of course is severely depressing. I hate my hair short, and now i have to go through the agony of waiting for it to grow back out. Never let your mother force you into a haircut unless you know they are not put off by their son with womanly locks. NEVER!

I don't think so. I have a few tracks by this bunch and I don't know that I'd even call it folk, although I suppose it's close.
Some of their stuff like Waiting for a superman is actually reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkel musically although not maybe not vocally. I get strains of early Eagles too, but that's probably just me being an old fart and having been around and actively involved in the early punk scene in Brighton, I think I would be able to spot that!

Sleeping Music
I couldn't fall asleep to Iron & Wine if I tried. I usualy turn on something loud and sensless to fall asleep. If there is good acoustic music in the room, i'll try to pick every note apart to try to learn the song. But I suppose I'm just weird like that.

As the owner and player of five guitars (though not all at the same time!) and a Yamaha drum kit, I too like to be able to play what I hear. I used to try and remember songs by whistling them in an effort to become more proficient at twanging away at my guitar, but I just got better at whistling!
Having been kept awake all night by a neighbour who had side one of Dark Side of the Moon on repeat and played it from 12:30 am until after I went to work some years ago, I can safely say I I'm not sure about having music on to fall asleep to, but whatever floats your boat.
