Today is the big 70 for me, and all things considered, it beats the heck out of the alternative. Those who knew me as a teen looked at me, shook their heads and said, "That crazy SOB will never see 30". Well to all of them: Raspberries!
I'm still around and going strong, and whats more I've had fun every day of my life. Though I gripe and bluster a bit on occasion, What's the point of being 70 if you can't be a little curmudgeonly once and a while? But I want you all to know that I love and respect everyone here and that you are all my adopted family.
My wish for each of you is that when you reach 70, for those who haven't gotten there yet, that you can say you found something every day to make you happy. Now I'm looking forward to 80, 90, 100, who knows?
Now I'm going to bed 'cause I'm getting up at 5:45AM so I can be at work early.
Retire? Nah! It's boring!!!

Happy Birthday Ole! I'm right behind you... 18 more months. I tried being retired; got tired of being retired after one year and went back to work. I'm gonna work until they start throwing dirt In my face and planting daisys on my head. I plan on that being a long time from now because I'm gonna live forever, So far... So good. Hmmm not sure if that right but it sounds good to me. So essentially you need to get an 18-21 year old boyfriend and keep replacing ever 2-3 years to stay forever young lol.

So far no signs of the ravages of age except DJD mostly around some old injury sites. No heart, diabetes, or signs of major illnesses. And since I retired, and lost some weight my blood pressure dropped to the point that my Doc. took me of my blood pressure meds. Just had the semiannual checkup and blood work and all within acceptable norms.

Actually I've had fun most every day of my life and joke and laugh daily. When life isn't fun anymore, throw dirt on me :I'm dead! And unless I'm in the grip of allergies (I hate Ragweed), I sing at least 2 hours each day. I've sung all my life and see no reason to stop now no matter how many people stare at me...

I guess it's boring at home, but when I'm that age, I certainly want to be retired - although considering how they push back retirement all the time, I'll probably have to work till 75 :(

So now I only have 1 that I work 2 to 6 days each week and, of course my own business. I tried retirement at 68 but was climbing the walls in 2 weeks.

Hi Ole,
I'm a couple of years behind you. I really don't know what I'd do if I retired. Yeah, it's sometimes a bummer to get up at 5 in the morning just so I can go drive truck for 8 hours, but you know, while I enjoy sitting around doing nothing, it doesn't take long before I really want to do something.
My son-in-law's father retired about ten years ago. The longest he had gone without a job is about a year. His wife says he's so much a pain around the house that she's glad when he decides to go get a job again. I'm sure I'll be the same.

Well bugger this dying lark I'm gonna keep going 'til I have to give up being disgraceful!!! And yep, between clubbing and being a crazy bitch, I still work at my property portfolio (Cross the pond last week sorting out stuff in the big apple.) Next month Prague to show my face in Bruno, bugger this retirement lark! Oh and a couple of hundred miles a week on the bike.

Finding this site and this wonderful, caring community has helped make these golden years, like,'fer sure'. I am always impressed by the quality of writing that I find here each day and the depth of caring I see, each for the others. I don't comment a lot because I rarely have a lot to say but I am here and I do love you.
I cannot put into words how much this all means to me but as my life has gradually constricted due to health and financial reverses my reading is the biggest part of what is left. This I have always had from age 3 and this community of readers and writers has become, for me a haven.
The years since 1996 when I began my transition have been truly wonderful.Then again, Each of the fairly discrete episodes of this so interesting life: Hippy, drug runner; the University years;Career and family years; transition, sailing and Lesbian "Bitch Magnet"(according to the owner of my favorite Dyke Bar in Ft.Lauderdale); and my current years as an elder crone among a wonderful community of feminist activists is/has been wonderful.Even if I have reputedly, retired 3 Guardian Angels to the Rest Home.
