35 degrees!!
That's what they were complaining about, it being 35 degrees (in summer in the train carriages). Congratulations on winning, but please, 35 is nothing. I used to work at a McDonald's 'resuraunt' with a broken air conditioner, it was 40+ degrees everyday though summer, and then you spend half your time over a grill or deep fryer! 35,hah,I spit on there 35.

In and around the Oklahoma Panhandle it was around 38-39ºC. and in southern Arizona and the Imperial Valley of California it was over 43ºC and The Imperial Valley, at least, is quite often damned humid.

You should try living on the north-east coast of England. Middle of June, brilliant sunshine and the biting wind off the North Sea has reduced the temperature to around 12 degrees. We only know it's summer here because it stays light till after 10 pm.
But it usually warms up a bit around August.
For a while, I worked in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for CN
Now that was an interesting climate. They have electrical outlets on most public streets downtown, and in private car parks. The purpose of these handy gadgets was so that one could plug in your automobile (all of which had electrical cords sticking out from somewhere handy) to the mains, which then powered electric engine block heaters to prevent the engine oil from either freezing solid or increasing in viscosity so much that one couldn't turn the engine over with the starter. The lowest temperature ever recorded in the city was −49.4°C, but that was back in 1886 and it's warmed up a bit since then, I actually never saw it dip much below −26.0°C and the average low point during January was −20.0°C or so, practically sundress weather.

Weather wimps
When I lived in Norway in 1980, there was a serious heatwave round the world. The Norwegian workers were peeling layers of clothing off, many times working topless in the afternoon. The temp. was around 18 degrees C. I told them that back home we were having a heat wave also. (That summer Oklahoma set a new record for the number of consecutive days of 105+ degrees F. So I told them we were hitting daily highs of 40+ degrees C. They wanted to know if I lived in the desert.
Funny, I remember one of the British newspapers at the time had a huge headline in bold, "Sweltering Seventies!". I laughed so hard I actually fell down.
Now, for the weather, we took it pretty hard on the 20th and again on the 31st. But we'll rebuild, we always do. It's the Oklahoma way. As one man put it, "Twister destroyed my house in '99 (May 3rd, 1999 F-5), so I rebuilt it. Now my house's been destroyed by this 'un; I'll rebuild her again. If a twister comes along and tears that down, I'll rebuild again." Sometimes life sucks, then you pull on your boots and get to work.

I don't understand the hooraw
I don't understand the hooraw about this, really. The dress code was trousers for men, trousers or skirts for women. So, all they did is say "if you won't add shorts to the dress code, we'll protest by just simply adapting what is allowed." - that is, skirts.
I never thought it had anything to do with cross dressing - either that, or half the men in Scotland that have been to a formal event have been cross dressing. If you say that, I want to be... oh, about 100 yards away when you tell one of them.

I saw it like you do. But on several of the trans support groups on FB, plus the original story posted here, everybody seemed determined to make it some sort of cross-dressing incident. On one FB group, the moderator was inventing some crossdressers with a secret plan to ease public acceptance of men wearing women's clothing. I saw no indication of that, so I proposed scenarios based on how the railway would decide. Either way the men would quickly abandon the skirts. I'm happy that the railroad company is revising their dress code to allow either sex to wear shorts, and are even going to issue them as part of their official uniform.
I'm not sure 100 yards is really a safe distance, though.
