I am having a terrible time with my spacing on my stories. I set it the way I want it, but it posts completely wrong. I
have done it three times and I am just about at my wits end . Help!!!!!

Google Docs
Have you tried using Google Docs? I do all my stories using Google docs and then copy and paste into Big Closet, works perfectly, apart from italics, every time.

Using Open Office
I write my stories in Open Office and save them as a text file (*.txt). I then open the file in either Notepad (Windows) or Kate (Linux), copy the text, and paste it in. Any formatting is done in the Big Closet editor.
Keeping it simple.
I too use Open Office. When saved it automatically is as an .odt file which copies and pastes directly onto BS/TS just as the original, spacing and all.
As I am terminally computer illiterate I do not know why this is so. And now I have mentioned it I would not be surprised if it never did again. But for the moment .....

Everything is automatically saved on Mozy which is free, at least for the volume I require. Check it out - Mozy Home remote back up - at www.mozy.com.
Because my computer is old and irrevocably decrepit I have also invested in an external hard drive which copies things every ten minutes. The Mozy is there as insurance against the house being entirely gutted by an arson attempt from a writer jealous of the quality of my deathless prose, and because I have probably wrongly installed the external hard drive back-up programme.

I Am Frustrated
Believe it or not, I have started writing my stories on Yahoo email and placing it in the "draft" section instead of mailing it. I started that because Yahoo claims to have unlimited storage and I store my stories there, so if my computer goes out, I will still have them (unless Yahoo cancels my account for some reason, which has been known to happen. A lot of things can happen. For instance, a floppy may tear up.)
I copy it from "draft" and paste it on Big Closet and it comes out just like I put it in "draft".
(It will not work doing the opposite -- going from Big Closet to Yahoo. It will not separate the paragraphs when I do that.)

Spacing
Open up the input format below your stories. There should be at least two choices. One is Filtered HTML w/line breaks, another is Filtered HTML w/o line breaks. If you simply put a blank line between paragraphs, the first of these will work. If you use <p> or <br> tags to control the spacing yourself, use the second. The first is default because that works like most email programs and people are used to it.

ah, yes
As I know nuthin' about HTML etc I always post using a copy from rtf file to the plain txt w/line breaks. Usually it works ok and I have to tweak the odd line after previewing. I posted a story for someone else the other day and had to go through and rejig every par. Not a major drama but as Jen said, frustrating. Damn... maybe I have to learn all those little bracket thingies. I'll probably blow up the site the first time I try. It wuz an accident.... honest.

I realize it could be a lot of work and quite confusing,
but I've sometimes wished there was a sandbox here
to experiment with.
I use Zoho Writer (www.zohowriter.com) and then just
cut and paste. It works fine.
