Strange things happen to you on this site. You read a story by a new author and you think hmmm, that wasn't bad. You read it again, determined to offer a detailed review because you remember the first time you posted something here and while it was nice to see someone say 'keep up the good work' you really wanted more.

So you begin constructing your review, and as you're thinking about the central character you realise just how beautifully drawn it is, a truly androgynous figure who makes the reader question their right to assign labels to what when all's said and done is just a young person trying to get by.

Then, if you're like me, you want a soundtrack to go with this. You settle on something that perfectly encapsulates the deceptively fragile beauty of the experience you've just had. And you want to share it.

Anthony Phillips was an original member of Genesis, and played guitar on the first two albums. He left the band because the after-effects of an illness had led him to develop stage fright. Much of the sadness he must have felt is apparent in these unutterably lovely pieces.

I won't embarrass the author I referred to earlier by naming her here. If she's reading this, she knows who she is.
