A very fair approach...
...and yes, a reason to contact folks in the State government regarding the legislation. The bad part in all this may be that no matter what happens, once again human rights 'distribution' is being handled by vote, leaving everyone in the hands of an ever-changing and capricious democracy rather than merely being recognized as an obvious fact.

I Just Wrote Mine
Living here in Brooklyn, my default assumption is that I'm represented by liberal lawmakers. But, why take a chance? As we're sometimes called "the Borough of Churches," I used my Quaker/religious position on Equality as the basis of my letter. I hope my State Senator writes me back and clarifies her position.
