Hit and Miss.

For anyone who is able to receive Sky Atlantic in the UK, a new Series starring Chloe Sevigny starts on the 22nd of May.

The series is set in Manchester, and she stars as a pre op TS hitman, or Hitgirl.

The link gives an Interview on the role, plus other clips and details are available on the same site.

Whether it is a formulaic approach to the subject we shall have to wait and see. Chloe has said she did not like her stay in Manchester as it rained all the time. Well there’s a surprise.

BBC: America != BBC (!= aka Does Not Equal)

Piper's picture

BBC America has no real relation to BBC UK other than Discovery Communications licensed the name. Many of the "BBC" shows shown on BBC UK don't actually air on the BBC in the UK :)

As usual I have mixed feelings on this kinda thing

On the one hand we are presenting the problems of TS in the pre-op part of their lives but the *meh* part is that it is being done by a genetic girl ( or assumed to be a genetic girl. ) It reminds me, as a Chinese American, of all those old Charlie Chan movies. On the one hand it was nice, for that era, as it was presenting a Chinese American as being intelligent and respected as a peer by the Caucasian folks, without any kind of segregation; onn the contrary, he was in demand. This respectful image was not offered to the hispanic and African American minorities until much later.

Of course the actors who did 'Charlie' was doing kinda like the Asian version of Black Face. His presentation of being Chinese also locked in certain stereotypes for way too long. Today Chinese Americans are almost considered honorary whites, whatever that really means.

As usual, whenever new ground is broken, it is a cross your fingers moment.

My concern

Is the detached psycho element of the professional killer, dissociative and dispassionate. If they think we're all like that, we've got problems - big ones.

Trans portrayals...

Andrea Lena's picture

...at least on TV seem to either broad and cartoonish, dark, or outright female impersonation. For all of its shortcomings, two things portrayals stand out for me (the few that I have seen) Cillian Murphy in Breakfast on Pluto, which is tragic but realistic in its approach; especially in Kitten's relationship with her father. And Steve MacIntosh as Kim in Different for Girls. While the characters are treated poorly and stereotypically at times by other characters, the directors of both films seem more than just sympathetic, and guide both actors to give realistic and sympathetic portrayals. Both movies have become two of my favorite films of all time.

The current view, at least from what I've seen here in the US, is skewed by a complete misunderstanding of transgender and all the expressions along the vaguely distinct spectrum of being human and trans seemed to get lost in the stereotypical beliefs fueled by Ru Paul's Drag Race and other such offerings.

I remember Sidney Toler and Warner Oland (being considerably older than you, my dear) and the 'ah so' delivery of both actors. Little by little, hopefully.

As usual. We third class plebes...

...inhabiting wilderness outside of UK are not worthy of pleasures of British Television.

Hit & Miss is getting

Hit & Miss is getting streamed (at least the first ep) on http://www.1channel.ch/watch-2733299-Hit-and-Miss for those that wanted to see it but are beyond the BBC ;).

BTW watching streaming is legal in my area (at least at this time). So the above link isn't in anyway a 'push' to perform an illigal act if streaming is illigal in the area where you live.

On in North America; I was

On in North America; I was surfing the channel guide and discovered that Hit & Miss is on SuperChannel.

Ep 2 is on this week, so it must have started last week.

First episode will be repeated eventually and it will also be available from on-demand.
