I recently got my copy of God Bless the Child back and would really like to offer it as an e-book. Is there anyone willing to convert the doc file into the ebook formats so I can make it available. I would appreciate it.

DIY?

In case you don't get any takers, it's apparently relatively painless to convert documents yourself - there are a number of tools that can do the job - what follows below is what I've found on 'net searches, others with more experience of eBooks may be able to suggest alternatives...

PDF is the easiest format to convert to - try Cute PDF Writer (works like a virtual printer) - it's completely free.

The ePub format is probably the closest thing to a standard - most eBook readers can handle it (including the Kindle, even though that prefers its own mobi format). A quick 'net search reveals several converters to ePub format, but although many don't support Word native formats (.doc, .docx) many can handle RTF (Rich Text Format) or HTML, which Word can save to while preserving most formatting (example: calibre).

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

God Bless the Child

Wonderful Idea!

God Bless the Child is one of the great stories to come out of TG/TS literature. I hope that you continue to publish it in any format that makes sense to you.

I also loved Growing Up Jenny and Finding Jenny. I hope that some day you will find the time and the Muse to continue the story of this beautiful child.

Calibre

is the way to go I think.

Calibre is a free, open source, library maintenance tool that interfaces with many a e-reader, as Kindle, Sony prs-series, and what not, Go here : http://calibre-ebook.com/ and read all about it, Installation is a snap, and it's supported on Window, Macs and Linux operated pc's

Calibre

I second Calibre as the best way to convert to e-books. It can convert to mobi (for kindle) and ePub (for Nook/Sony Reader) but I don't think I can convert from DOC so you will need to save the file as either PDF, HTML or RTF first. It will probably take a bit of playing around with the settings to get the conversion right and looking good in each new format.

I'll also suggest Calibre.

I'll also suggest Calibre. As for making it HTML, I'd suggest downloading Seamonkey. It's basically the original Mozilla (which wasn't a brand, but rather the successor to Netscape Navigator)

Anyway, you don't have to use the rest of the features of Seamonkey, but the editor built into the system is the simplest HTML editor I've worked with, especially for documents.

In short, you'd open seamonkey, hit the editor, create a new document, and just cut and paste your Microsoft Word document right into the window. After checking the formatting, just save it as an html file, and then Calibre can shift that into .epub.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
