I was talking to my ex last week when we were walking back from the American Museum in Bath, about that fact that Saturday 14th July, is twenty six years since I transitioned, and went to work as a female for the first time.

She had no recollection of our dash to Cardiff to enhance my wardrobe, though in all fairness, I suppose I had more to remember about it. Looking back, I consider I was very fortunate to working for a then District Health Authority, who were sympathetic. It could have gone much worse.

There have been ups and downs over the years since 1986, but I have few regrets, the major one of those being about the loss of my son since he got married and the fact I haven't seen my only grandchild.

The relationship with my daughter is good and even with my ex, it's not too bad these days, she still tells me off for my dress sense - although last week she told me I looked quite smart. I told her I was a dull as ever and she then told me off about throwing a compliment back at her. We don't share the same sort of humour, thankfully my daughter does, so we laugh lots when we get together.

As they say, tempus fugit.
