As a result of the storms that swept through the Ohio Valley on Friday night, we have been without power for about 36 hours now. They are currently giving estimates of 5-7 days for 90% restoration. Hopefully it will be sooner than that. I will be poking my head in as power and cell service allows.

The same storms rolled into ...
... Virgina, DC, and Maryland on Friday night like a misguided meteorological freight train with anger management issues. We have entire trees ripped from the ground and tossed onto parked cars (and power lines). Oh, and when a ninety mile wind visited my neighborhood, half of a tree in our backyard decided that Friday night was the moment it had been waiting for, and it exacted its revenge on my home by falling on my roof and punching a couple of holes in it.
When it was over, a million people had no power, including my family.
So, no power here, and no Internet. I'm only here thanks to my iPad and trusty data plan (and a car adapter that lets me keep it charged). And no AC as well, while the temperature and humidity numbers make sleep nearly impossible. I am so looking forward to the sound of chainsaws. (Wow, I never thought I'd put those words together in a single sentence. *grin*)
I'm sure they'll get around to us ... soon?

Best of luck!
Sounds like one of our springtime showers here in Okla. and Texas. The density of your powergrid may make things a little harder/take a little longer to restore. I'd expect the Internet service to take awhile to restore, as the power utilities crews have priority access to the poles.
There is a tree in our backyard that has caused problems in the past, and the city utilities people would like it gone. However, they can't authorize removal due to some silly-assed environmental rule forbidding the removal of "healthy" mature trees. It's not all that healthy, the roots get in the stormwater drainage system, it keeps growing into the overhead power lines, and it has taken out our utility drop before - actually ripping the power meter, box, and conduit off the house. meh.

Power outage
Over here in Europe we cannot really imagine such a big power outage as we don't have these big storms and most power lines are below ground.
I wish everyone working on the restoration anything they need to finish fast and no additional accidents!

US of A has the crasiest possible power grid design.
It's very good idea to invest in good genset with extended fuel tank if you live not in the big city.
Biggest problem is, if they will not be able to restore power soon, you will start to get cellular and internet outage quite soon - at best cellular operators have batteries good for 24 hours of tower operation.
Just back on here...
We lost power before the full force of the storm hit us. at about 11pm on Friday I'd guess...The storm stretched all the way from Trenton to Virginia I was told :|
We JUST got our power back on less than 10mins ago, we were being told 2-3days possibly longer.
As of yesterday evening they had made it as close as 2 grids away... (I was following the progress of street lamps on the big street near by).
We lost a large tree in the yard, I will post pictures in a bit. No property damage to our house, but a limb from our tree might have broken the windshield of a minivan of the people across the street... it DID take out their cable-line from the pole!
All in all, most our neighborhood just had a LOT of cleanup and no major property damage. I'm just REALLY REALLY glad that the power is online so that I don't have to listen to bill asking me to turn on the TV every 5 mins, or tell me that he's hot and I need to turn the fans on.
-HuGgLeS- Samantha, I hope you all get power soon!
We've got hotel rooms ...
... to stay in for the next few days, although we have to move from hotel to hotel tomorrow and go back home to care for the dogs several times each day. We have AC and Internet, and will be able to sleep without the oppressive heat. Whether I'll be going to work tomorrow is a question, since a visit to my office last night revealed a building where only emergency power ruled, the elevators wouldn't come when called ("BAD elevators! No biscuits!"), and the office email isn't working at all. *fingers crossed*
Anyway, my family and I are safe and comfy for now. *smile* Here's hoping the power is fixed soon, though, Home is really where we all want to be.

Our power was restored some
Our power was restored some time this morning between 10 and 10:30. We weren't home, but were at church and returned home to a house that had the AC running full bore for about 2 hours. It helped a little bit. We just had another severe storm roll through, and they are forecasting much of the same for the next few days... Looks like I should probably start carrying an HT everywhere...
An HT?
"carrying an HT everywhere" Really? Curious about that, if you feel like explaining? A PM will be fine.

As someone who lives in the Ohio Valley...
I can say that yes, indeed, more than a few of us in this area were sucker-punched by this storm. I only just got power back on at about 1:30 pm local time (gmt-5). Then we have another, albeit much smaller, storm roll through earlier. This one dropped hail on the area I live in, about half the size of a golf ball at the largest. Here's hoping that it's all done with, for now.
P.S.
The heat and humidity sucked every bit as much as one could imagine. I took a temprature reading at my parents house and came up with 125 degrees fahrenhiet on the second day with no power. Keep in mind, that was inside the second story of the house. I hope and pray that the ones who still don't have power stay safe.
Peace be with you and Blessed be
Help coming
I just saw on our local news that Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E) is sending 35 fully crewed lineman trucks up to help restore power wherever their assistance is needed. Supposed to be hundreds of trucks coming from all across the U.S. to assist. Hopefully it won't be too much longer for y'all!

We were back up at 10:30ish
We were back up at 10:30ish local time. AEP was saying that it was going to be the 7th by Midnight for a 90% restore, but they are kicking ass. Reminds me of when they staged all the trucks for Ike and then we got hit by Ike. In OHIO! They said that this system that went through Friday was stronger than what we got from Ike.
By Ike...
Do you mean the one from back in 2008, I think it was? If that's the case, then I can only say that Ike's might not have been as fast, but covered a larger area here in Cincinnati Ohio. Business district Downtown looked like something off the set of a zombie apocalypse movie.
Peace be with you and Blessed be
That's the one! I was
That's the one! I was actually down in Cincy when it hit, I recall listening to 700 WLW and hearing the host talking about flying porta-potties... Yuck...
