The Danish Folketing has voted overwhelmingly in favour of a full ecclesiastical marriage service in the national Evangelical-Lutheran church for homosexual couples, to be instituted as a full, official marriage equal to that of heterosexual couples. After a lengthy and sometimes heated debate, which ran some three hours over its expected time, 85 members voted in favour of the law, 24 against and with two abstentions.

Apparently, the reason the Folketing can rule in this way is that the Protestant Church in Denmark is a State Church.

HOORAY for Danes!
Great to see a forward-looking society in the world.

Weddings
In my 'Sweat and Tears' I used Denmark for several reasons, one being their early allowance of gay partnerships. It was the place I set the solemnisation of the union of two men who would have been jailed in the UK for their love, and for the recovery of another who was given electrical shocks to the brain to cure his 'perversion'.
This is an example of real people accepting Others as also being Real People. It isn't such a big thing, but ye gods is it a Big Thing!
