It's been one of those days! I had been writing a very effective dialogue between two people and it was just clicking along. I couldn't get over how well the story was coming along...and then, kaaaapooooowwww! I got the blue screen of death! Lost it all...sigh! Trying to remember what I typed once again...remember, save early, save often!!!! Gah!

Yup.

I learned to save and do it often for the same reason. Hopefully it's all still fresh enough that you can recover at least the general moods and actions.

My condolences on the set back. But I'm also sure that you'll be able to get past that and finish the story.

Been there-

done that. Backing up often and making sure you have more than one copy is important. You never know when something is going to go wrong.

The problem is like you said, when you're really in the zone you're not thinking about stuff like that. Time passes by so fast, and then blam! The Blue screen of DEATH! That is usually followed by an agonized NOOOOOOooo!

I have had good luck with Open Office being able to recover 'lost' documents due to crashes.

Hugs!

Don't you have ...

Don't you have an automatic save mechanism that backs up what's been written every so many minutes so that at least most of what you've done gets saved?

Office Software...

Both Microsoft and Open Office suite often have an auto save function. To be able to recover from situations just like this one.

Publisher in the new packages does as well.

So, here is hoping you have not tried to rewrite the story from memory in the same file and were using one of the programs with an auto recover/save macro.

Either way I am sorry, this happened to you. I had a computer die on me last year and lost all the saved stories and the ones I was try to at least put some words to. It is a frustrating and annoying thing to lost your work/system.
