I live up in North Texas smack dab in the middle of Tornado Alley, but really, they arnt that bad... I'd rather deal with tornado's than Hurricane's. A tornado will only cut a thin path of destruction, and the odds are very very much in your favor that you wont be directly affected by one. A hurricane? pfft if it's anywhere near you at all... well your just screwed.

My brother and i got so used to seeing tornadoes that during the season, we'd pull out lawn chairs on the patio, drink and watch as they cut across the fields. Oh and that's another thing, they very rarely actually hit a town, most are out in the fields.

It was pretty exciting here today. I'm in the Garland area myself.

Yes, it sounds like it from

Yes, it sounds like it from the news photos and the weather service Dallas did have a bad day. Glad your OK and I hope anyone else on this site from that area also OK!

Hm... for some reason I

Hm... for some reason I thought she was in Louisiana.

She used to live around Houston, in the same area in which I grew up.

Ya dallas fort-worth area got hit hard.

I do hope anyone that is a member or a visitor to this site didn't get caught up in that mess. But the weather channel said it was 2 LARGE an strong tornados. As theres was one that hit the trucking company Schinder and tossed a few of it's trailers up into the air around 100-200ft.

Better a parking lot full of

Better a parking lot full of trucks than a trailer park full of people. (one of them apparently did injure a few dozen people)

I think they finally stopped making 'manufactured homes' out of that material that attracted tornadoes.

Nope

Tornadoes and trailers go together, they are connected through Hyperspace. There are way more manufactured homes/mobile homes/trailers then there are tornadoes, but they do their best. I actually saw a chaser with a model of a mobile home on his dash as bait!

Thanks for the kind thoughts, but I'm in Southern Mississippi atm. I grew up in Houston. We just have to worry about hurricanes... mostly.

That's right - you're south

That's right - you're south of my wife's family.

Weather

Whether the weather be fine
Or whether the weather be not
Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not.

Meanwhile, over here in the UK we don't have such violent extremes, but the weather can still play havoc...
"Ooh look, there's a flake of snow. How pretty. Argh! There's an inch on the ground! PANIC STATIONS!"

Last Wednesday, bright sunshine and temperatures of up to 23°C (73°F) across the UK.
Today, rain, sleet and wind combined with rather chilly temperatures of 3°C (37°F) plus deep snow in parts of Scotland.
What a difference a week makes!

No one got hurt. It is boarding on a miracle actually.

I'm going to tell on myself about a really dumb stunt. I was outside in the rain with an umbrella scanning the horizon. There was an air to air lightning strike and the umbrella shocked me. It occurred to me at that point that more people are killed by lightning than twisters.
