Attempt two at writing this. I think I forgot to submit last time - duh!

Anyway, I had a few comments go via my Inbox rather than against the story that were clearly story related and would have been very beneficial to other readers. When I enquired, it seems there is a new restriction to 15 comments per week. This is the first time I've heard such a thing.

Is this something caused by Drupal or something to stop too much growth in the topshelf Database.

This I suppose isn't a problem when I'm in the office as I can check my Inbox (though others suffer as they don't see the comments with the story). However, when I'm out visiting clients [sigh], I daren't log in to see the Inbox, but can see the comments against the story.

The limit is in place for a single user

...that needed it to learn by. Mistakes were made by the user and instead of removing the user, we are teaching that user how to comment. The first step is by listening. The second, is going by the guidelines Erin setup, which will lead to eventual full privileges again. We cannot have someone come in and disrupt everyone in our community here on Bigcloset. Its not fair to the authors already here, nor the readers. Some control has to be maintained. But rather than just remove those that make mistakes - not on purpose, mind you, we are trying to teach them (Even though we are not really a school). Its a second chance and a fair one.

Don't automatically assume new restrictions apply for all unless we post a full anouncement up. And no, we are not being cruel, that is not and never will be the intentions of discipline.

If you have questions in particular, please direct them to Erin in PM for that subject.

comment restrictions

Interesting, as I've had a few comments via the Inbox from different users, not just a single user.

I suppose I will just have to deal with the new way of working, which certainly isn't very flexible. It is hard for an author to put an item in the comment explaining something that I thought was obvious, but when a few readers raise the same point via the Inbox it means duplication and leaves the void for all the other readers who don't comment.

comments coming by inbox

There is no new way of doing anything.

If you get comments in your inbox, it's because someone sent them via "Reply to Author" rather than as comments.

Nothing to do with me or Sephrena.

re: comment in inbox

Hi Erin,

It must just be a coincidence then. I'd just hate to think that people were being told not to comment. It is what keeps us authors going and helps me make sure what I'm writing is understood. I did hear that there was a worry that the number of comments in the side bar were filling up quickly. Would it be possible to make it longer? There seems to be a great amount of blanks space on the right, or would that slow down the database access too much?

Shame that one of the comments was sent to me via the private facility, as it had great merit. Now I can't explain as a response to a story comment, so will have to write it into a later chapter of the story.

That explains it

I was wondering why I was suddenly getting loads of PMs about stuff I've written from someone with whom I've really had next to no contact.

Wasn't it Jim Henson who said, "Without faith, I am nothing," after all? Wait, no, that was God. Sorry, common mistake...
