I don't think I can begin to tell all the ways that this
story made me feel really good, but it really did. I think
I chuckled for a half hour.

Still, I feel so badly for several other stories, some from
only a few years ago, when several seemingly Fine officers were
removed from service, for being lesbian. It must be a form of
vindication for those poor souls, but I can't believe it was
one that could take away the bitter pain at having the country
you only wish to serve, turn its back on you, and at the same time,
its own principles.
Still, it made me laugh from sheer joy.

A little good news.

Just Wonderful To See
We lost many great Airmen and Officers while I was on active duty. We'll probably never be able to make that right.

Portia
*yes!*
Such a seemingly minor thing but so loaded with meaning. Maybe, just maybe, one day trans folks will have their day.

"I don't believe in Gay Rights"
"i don't believe in gay rights," was a title that caught my attention,
while looking up my usual random. I was dumbfounded by the fact that
this guy put out the best video. It only had like ten-thousand views,
because of the title no doubt, but it should have had millions. Turns
out, he's a humanist, and believes in Human Rights for everyone.
I was looking into the latest, on the effects of Maternal testosterone
levels in fetal development, and physiology, physiognomy...
It's hard, because most of the hits come up in Obstetrics journals, because
every nut-job with a grant tries to figure out new ways to determine the sex
of a foetus, based on hormone levels. Odd, since the standard deviation on a
mean testosterone level of 850 ug/cc is almost 300 units! (About as useful
as: 'How do I get to Chicago?' "It's right there between New York, and
California!")
Anyway... I'm seeing all the same issues in the research. Yes, many studies
do find correlations between homosexuality an the right-brain/left-brain symmetry,
the hypo campus and the amygdala, but usually they are talking about studies of
about fifty subjects. With data sets that small, the results are very
interesting, but they clearly are not the be-all end-all of the issue.
In fact, usually a peer reviewed paper would be laughed out of the journal
for such insignificant data sets.
Apparently though, even with seven people on the planet, you can't dissect
any of them, even if the science is really good. Go figure.
Still, and in answer to your point, Kimmie, I just feel so badly that the
medical research, even conceeding the overwhelming difficulty of studying
the complexities of behavior in a complex organism like a human primate, has
plainly and simply let these people down. We should have done better.
And...
Isn't it just the cherry on top, that gender, the thing that so many don't even
realize can be a question, is a much harder study than sexuality - as messed up as
that can get.
Someday. Though, I can scarcely imagine, let alone desire, a world without a
batch of richly creative, and wonderfully human people like those who inhabit this
site. Perhaps, it's because we have no small experience in questioning some very
basic things, which the majority of humans never even notice. Still, it would be
better to know which children might have the problem, and for those who are trained
to do so, to be ready to help when needed as they are identified very early.
It would still be a loss. We can't know if it's the struggle that makes us unique,
or simply who we are. But I've come to believe how so many primitive cultures could
believe that persons of rich and variant gender are gifted or blessed.
... But, someday, medical science, and culture will catch with us too. Then the
issue will probably be those of us who don't want the cure.

Simplistic, but it was a really awesome video, that I only clicked on to see if
it would melt my brain. Imagine my surprise to discover it was probably the best
video like this I've seen. Shows to go ya.
I saw it on the television news
... and it was a pretty great thing to see.
