I have tried many things over the years to get a little extra life for a breast form once I have inevitably gotten a cut in the protective film. As I do sleep in the forms this will happen.
Usually I get close to two years before it does though.
My latest ones only went about a year.
I picked up Nexcare absolute waterproof from 3m. Now it isn't clear so it doesn't look great, but this is the first tape I have used that has actually stuck to the forms even with the silicon coming out. Usually after a few days other tapes have hardened or started to peel back. I've had the same tape on these forms now for literally weeks and they are still soft and completely sealed.
It is certainly useful to have a way to continue to use these forms until I can get new ones, and not feeling like I have to rush out and buy them right now when money is tight is really a help.
Just wanted to share this as I'm sure I'm not the only one of us that has had this problem.

Breast forms and aging
As a person who once used breast forms I will tell you that they are not made for sleeping. After I had breast implants I learned that in order for my breast to remain healthy I had to sleep without a bra. The same applies to breast forms if you want them to last you have to put them on the shelf for the night.

I am well aware of that, however for years, before my son knew about Kristy, the only time I had for Kristy was at bed time. That isn't as true now, but I really do cherish that time, so despite the fact that I know sleeping on them is not good for them, I do anyway.
That said, even those who follow all the instructions for best care will eventually find they have developed a puncture, so finding a useful product is something worth sharing.
In this case.one of them actually burst at the seam, which is the hardest place to seal, but by using short strips running from the back to the front and overlaying, I got a strong seal that is holding up. If I can get an extra three or four months or more out if them, so much the better.

Actually I've had issue from a underwire that poked out once, and I had a problem another time because the plastic holder in the box cracked...

Thanks. I actually have a set of foam forms I use when I fly out of town for work. The boxes for the good forms take up too much room in the luggage. But they just are not the same. I really like the pressure from the silicon forms as they push into me, and knowing they are there. The foam ones slide more and also just don't have that same feel.
My whole point In posting this has more to do with my finding something that really works, as I'm sure I'm not the only one here that has had a form tear. I know there is a whole web page dedicated to tips on repair, and ive tried alot of those tips, but with limited success in the pastand I wanted to let others know.

A different way to fix punctures.
This method depends on whether or not you use the medical adhesive to attach your forms. IF you do, try this:
Take a waterproof band-aid.
Cut the sticky portion away from the pad.
Spray the puncture area and apply the sticky side of the cut up band aid after the adhesive gets tacky, and hold gently while it sets.
I have used this method on several forms with good seal results and no leakage afterward. As for tears on the edges of a form, use the same method Kristine suggested, while still using the above described materials. The band aids conform a bit closer to the color of the form, although they still aren't suitable for any part of the form that shows. Additionally, the band aids stay flexible much longer, and the fix is very long lasting
This method works best when used to seal small punctures. I haven't tried using it to fix an actual tear, but I would imagine it would work just as well.
Like Kristine does, I sometimes wear my forms to bed. I know, I know, you aren't supposed to do that, but again, like Kristine, I enjoy the feel and the weight as I drift off to sleep. As a late life transitioner, I haven't seen very much, if any, growth of my own breasts, and the forms are a large part of, not only my presentation, but my self image.
I don't use the medical grade adhesive any more, having purchased double sided adhesive tapes from The Breastform Store. They hold very well, and are not only cheap, but reusable with the refresher wipes that can also be purchased at The Breastform Store. I DO, however still have a spray can of the medical adhesive that I keep in case of a puncture or tear.

I don't have the adhesive so that is not an option. I have found that the band aid normal adhesive simply doesn't stick. What I found remarkable was that although this tape's initial feel was that it wasn't going to stick, once it bonded, my goodness is it bonded.
It is a bit on the thick side, but for my purposes, its doing a wonderful job. Both forms actually went at the same time. The left one has a minor little cut, the right form split on the edge, about a 4 inch length. This has sealed it tight, and has kept it usable. Definitely a plus, as right now I can't afford to go buy another pair.
My wife unfortunately totaled her car a couple of weeks ago, so we are looking at what we are going to have to do to go from a paid up car to probably ending up with a car payment, so forms aren't high on the priority list for our dollars right now. :(
Alternatives
Are (just about) available. You could always get out your sewing kit and fake up a pair. Won't feel the same, true, but could get you by.

I didn't post this blog as a complaint about my forms developing leaks, but rather as a way to share a product that I had found that really is working.
I'll certainly get a new set as soon as I can, but for the time being, having these remain usable is definitely nice.
