Hello All who care to read this, i have read a lot of post recently (including my own) on depression. I, for one am glad people are starting to speak up about this potentially dangerous subject openly, as it can be deadly.
I have an offsite blog Looking Forward, Moving Forward where i write about T* issues and very often about depression and the gender gifted, but it is for everyone, no matter how they identify.
I know especially now that the days are shorter and darker, it is easy to fall into a funk, but remember, You Are Not Alone.
you have us, you have friends, some even have the confessional. these are all great resources. I beg you, use them... there are few enough bright lights on our world, we are all diminished when one dims or goes out.
Biggest, Warmest Hugs,
Diana

best cures for depression ?
warm hugs, a nice cup of hot cocoa, a fuzzy animal to cuddle, toast with peanut butter on it (works for me, anyway), a pretty dress to wear, and my personal favorite, a good story here on BC (some girl named moongoddess writes some really awesome ones).

Cat Kisses and Angels
Yeah, a lot of people diss cats as aloof, unfriendly beasts, but those of us who are adopted by one (or more) and forge that bond with it know that's not true... they just tend to be more choosy who they share it with. Mine can tell when I'm depressed and tends to follow me around like my shadow, ready to jump in my lap for cuddles or lie with me in bed.
The other stuff Dorothy mentioned is awesome too. (except the PB toast, although tastes differ and I have a bad habit of eating more when depressed, so I get it...)
And Lizzie, Di had BETTER know she's not alone by now... or I'll have to spank her. Or maybe it means I'm not doing my job properly and I need spanks. Either way, spankings are involved. *giggle*

not all cats are choosy...
We've got an orange half-wild lynx mixed with I think common tabby. Anyways... This cat, it doesn't matter who you are, if you're up and about, he will constantly get under foot begging you for constant attention. You could be a complete stranger, but if you're the only person about, better watch your step, cuz there's an orange demon tailing you.

choosy cats
Yup, that's why I said they TEND to be more choosy. I've known a few cats who'll rub up to anyone who'll give them attention. We even had a cat who seemed to PREFER people who don't like cats. Or maybe that's a perverse cat thing. She used to always jump up on my gramma's lap, making her scream, "get off of me, you dirty beast!"

(the most important part, to her cat)
Eye contact
Cats can't read human expressions. Dogs can to a certain degree, but cats, not so much. They've been with us only 3000 to 5000 years, compared to dogs 30,000 to 150,000.
Cats think when you make eye contact and stare without smiling -- well, this looks like the cat, "I'm friendly" face. So, people who don't like cats, are afraid or allergic to them, tend to stare. And not wanting to be rude they don't grin at the cat, they keep a straight face. Cat thinks, "This person wants to get better acquainted, I'll go sit on them for awhile."
Hilarity ensues. :)
Hugs,
Erin

Wait, so...
What's it mean if you stare AND grin? Would that tell the orange devil to get away from me sufficiently that I can get ready for work in the morning without tripping on an orange mop that I KNOW I didn't leave out? ;P

And sunshine, too! As the days get shorter for those of us in the northern hemisphere, sunlight becomes a precious commodity. So get outside, if only for a few minutes, and enjoy it whenever it shows it's face. It has marvelous restorative properties!

Get outside? Eek! You mean leave the indoors? :O
Good advice, though. Get what sunlight you can in the winter. Unless you're closer to the equator, I guess.
Lisa
If there's sunshine to be had...
I'll get it. I'm leaving the house with the sun rising behind me, and coming home with the sun setting behind me.
Or at least, if it bothers to be about at all, that's what it's doing... above the clouds... the clouds which seem to be becoming heavier and heavier and thicker and thicker as the winter continues its inexorable approach. I don't doubt the Farmer's Almanac's prediction. This winter will be hell for NW Ohio. I can feel it in every fiber of my body.
