Greetings

My local newspaper carries a story today about a boy diagnosed with gender dysphoria.

'Girl, 10, trapped in a boy's body'

A GIRL trapped in a boy’s body has made the brave decision to return to school for the new term as a girl.

The 10-year-old, a year six pupil at primary school in Worcester, was born a boy but took the decision with her family over the summer holidays to return as a girl.

However, some parents didn't like the way it was dealt with.

'Parents angry as head tells pupils about girl'

PARENTS have complained after a Worcester headteacher chose to tell pupils that one of their classmates is a girl trapped in a boy’s body during school assembly.

The headteacher told children in two assemblies that a 10-year-old pupil had gender dysphoria on their first day back last week.

The majority of comments on the newspaper web site so far are favourable.

It saddens me...

...that the parents were forced to go public with it only because of the threats of the few parents who objected to their decision to support the girl. As one commentator said, who would go public if they could possibly avoid it. Now what should have been a personal decision that should have been no more remarkable than a tonsilectomy or a trip to the dentist becomes the beginning of unwanted attention. I do pray she is able to live a reasonably peaceful like. Good for her!

Age 12 might be too bloody late.

I had me 'moans about age 9. It would be much better to start them as soon as testosterone starts working its wickedness, or before? I still hope that one day we will know the causation and correct treatment.

Blocking Puberty

The treatment standard for prepubescent children who are potentially transitional is not sex hormones, but another hormone which actually blocks the entire puberty process, for both genders. It has the advantage of being completely reversible. If the drug is withdrawn, natural puberty proceeds normally. It basically provides a holding pattern, extending sexual immaturity until the patient can mature enough in other ways to be evaluated.

The puberty blocker tampers with the GnRH (Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone) cycle, by replacing it with a similar but inactive analogue. GnRH is the hormone that stimulates the pituitary gland to produce LH and FSH, which in turn stimulate the gonads to produce sex hormones. Depending which gonads you have, they produce boy or girl hormones, but GnRH, LH and FSH are identical in both sexes.
