Nobody Said There'd Be Math
Well, numbers can be important; I'll give you that. My PSA's (Prostate Specific Antigen) went from 5 to 12.6. Between that and the problems last week and a detected enlargement, my doctor has prescribed:
A) Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory in case it's an infection;
B) CAT Scat (Why, I don't know...the kitties are sitting on the couch right now glaring at the dog) of the abdomen to check bladder and kidneys externally;
C) Cystoscopy; (for those of us who haven't transitioned or aren't going to, or even to those who are curious) a fiber optic camera is inserted you know where to internally examine the bladder and prostate, and if necessary (likely);
D) Prostate Biopsy (done thru colon) to externally examine prostate' painful even with local blocker.
Now I could get really upset about this and complain that it's not fair. Sure I'm scared, but what good would complaining do. As my dear sister Randa has been kind enough to remind me, 'It is what it is.' And as someone else reminded me recently, 'God's got your back.'
The good news is that my testosterone level is low, so that's good for my fibro. The bad news is that the level of PSA's is very high, and could indicate some serious stuff. Worst case scenario is removal of prostate, for one reason or another; which I really don't even want to think about right now. Could be an infection, or even just a slight enlargement. Either way, would you pray for me? I've got so much to be thankful for. A community that cares and a place to write. The most adorable, loving, and patient wife ever. And a great son, who is at this moment in Manhattan interviewing for a SECOND time at the foremost diagnostic treatment center in the world. Whoo hoo!!!!
So not a bad day after all. I'm waiting for the imaging center to call back to schedule the CAT Scan, and we'll take it from there. Thanks for caring. Much love! Andrea

I'm not much into invoking mystical beings right now, so let me wish you Good Luck! instead!

Hang In There
Dearest 'Drea,
I know that if the surgery is necessary, the process is much simpler than it used to be. I hope for everyone's sake that the problem is benign. I've been there. It will be three years this October. If you want to talk about it, I'll be glad to go the PM route or emails. Hopefully, it's just a bacterial thing, and antibiotices will take care of it. Part of what happened to me is in Portia and the Double Whammy. I am still cancer free, and my PSA numbers are at the minimum level. My PSA didn't get as high as yours, <5, but I had other symptoms: blood in semen, frequent irritation.

Best of luck dear friend
Been there, done that. My prostate was so enlarged they decided to do the rotorooter on it, not fun. I've had the biopsy done twice, also not fun but not as bad as it sounds. Keep a positive attitude and everything will work out, Arecee
Dear Andrea, Thank you for

But I Like Math...
You should see what Yor and me are PMing back and forth. Gravity, density, planet size, all explained much more precisely with easy algebra.
Lord Kelvin said something like: "If you can't describe something mathematically, you really don't know much about it!" So they said at MIT. I've also heard that Lord Kelvin was an a__hole, but that's another matter.
Sorry for the scare and congrats about your son's new position. I'm sure he has very good genes.
Hugs and Bright Blessings,
