I'm working up a new story on my writing website, called The Nightingale's Song.

Well ...'new' is a bit misleading - it is a story based on one I wrote half a dozen years ago and posted on fictionmania.

This is not a reposting though. When I wrote "Redemption Song" I was intrigued with the idea of starting a story without exposition - just 'jumping in' and letting the back story trickle out as the plot progressed.

With this version, I've started the story from the place it naturally should have begun. I've added (and will be adding) many new chapters and fleshing out characters. Shoot, I may even end it differently for all I know.

As with my other stories, my plan is to post the rough drafts over there, and when finished, I'll publish the final version here for general viewing.

This story is pretty close

This story is pretty close to the Zeitgeist with all those false rape claims flying around. It seems people stop thinking when rape is involved.
They don't seem to give shit for the rule of the law or are too blinded to use their fucking brains. I mean they don't even assume that their main witness might lie, although she has every reason to do so. Without DNA analysis this should be a classical case of In dubio pro reo.

Seems to be an interesting story, but I liked the old version better. Maybe you should mention the consequences of the godess abandoning them earlier.

I very much liked the first version so this new one

-- Pseudo Plot Spoilers, kind of ---

The problems caused by abusing the gifts of the goddess in dealing with the supposed crimes of this man, a falsely condemned innocent, is a key part of the story.

That they didn't realize the wrong they had done until quite late showed both the humanity, frailty and foolishness of even the best of us, IE this order dedicated to the goddess. What I liked in the original was in their righteous anger they not only condemned an innocent but the punishment would have brought down the wroth of the goddess even if he was guilty. The very nature and the location that the punishment was carried out violated the goddesses rules in so many ways yet they did not see their folly at the time.

I wondered in the original, did the goddess have the condemned person in mind for some great deed so in a way the sisterhood was following her will though for the wrong reasons?

And did the sister most responsible for the innocent person's needlessly cruel punishment ever realize her error prior to her death?

Will read eagerly.

You have such a way of touching the emotions of your characters. I think I remember the story you're talking about, but still what I'll read brought tears to my eyes.

Wow! I've been peeking in and this is something very nice indeed! Then again I really like your stuff anyways. This one is intense and extremely moving, at least to me.
