Ok,
So I've been working on my newest story and I've realized that I am actually writing this in a much different way than I've written anything else. I've fallen in love with this way of writing, a way that the software I use makes very easy to write in.
Each chapter is a folder, inside each folder can be one text file, or a multitude of them. In one chapter I have a total of seven scenes, and I can add another scene between scene 3 and scene 4 if I feel it's needed without a whole lot of work on rearranging things.
Some people have said that some of my chapters are too short, and you know, for a lot of them I agree. I will probably be converting My Mistake over to the same way that I am writing Pinks. Emma's story feels right the way it is for now, but who knows what the future holds...

It's called Scrivener. You can get it from http://www.literatureandlatte.com/. It runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux (The windows and Linux versions are here: http://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivenerforwindows/) I think that the Mac version is better than the Windows/Linux version, as the code is a lot more mature than the Windows version.

Before Scrivener
I have no clue how I wrote anything... Especially the novel length works... I haven't found many annoyances for the way I write, but I can imagine that there would be some...

Short Chapters
I'm not saying Dan Brown is a great (or even good) writer, but he sells a lot of books. His chapters are quite short.
It's logical to assume that as your story moves toward an ending chapter length and sentence length should become shorter to match the reader's desire for a quicker pace.

Pacing
I tend to finish chapters where it feels like they should end. I think that's part of the reason why the chapters for Emma's Story end like they do... One could argue that they are more scenes than chapters, but to each their own.
Micheal Crichton had both long and short chapters in his works that I've read. Sometimes there is no natural break in a scene or chapter and the scene/chapter goes for 3,000 words, Others are 400...
