Cross-dressing to get into a music festival
Have to admire him for his bravado

Yup, I agree
The guy had a healthy share of chutzbah.

Well, not REALLY cross-dressing
Hi Wyrm,
I assume by the tone of the article that the female police officer's uniform consisted of pants and a shirt, pretty much unisex, so the banner about "cross-dressing" is just for sensationalism.
But that leads to the question; is it cross-dressing to wear a woman's male clothes? I know that I personally feel more comfortable in clothes bought in the women's section of a store, even when those clothes are completely androgynous. But I'm also freely willing to admit that that is all in my mind.

Indeed
He didn't "pretend to be a female police officer" at all, just a police officer. Nice beard, bridesmaid!*
*Lord Flashart to Baldrick
Beard ?
We don't know whether he had a beard when he dressed up. The Isle of Wight festival was a bit over two weeks ago, and the beard in the photo is less than two weeks growth (assuming the photo is contemporaneous with the report). If he was sufficiently desperate to steal a police uniform so he could hear the band play, I see no reason why he wouldn't shave his beard off as part of his 'cunning plan' (to continue the Baldrick theme)
We know from the report
1) he was wearing a female uniform
2) talked to real police officers without being found out
so either,
1) the female uniform is sufficiently close to the male uniform that police officers couldn't see any visible difference between male and female uniforms
2) he wasn't too bad an impersonator, and didn't present any obviously male behaviour or features
I tried a number of queries, but all reports are so similar this is obviously an agency feed that has been copied by a number of journalists. (Possibly appropriately, with today's reports of Johann Hari's plagiarism) I also couldn't find any photos of male and female uniforms. Since Cathy is based in Hampshire, we need to call on her great experience of the local plod to tell us how different the female uniform is.
Well...
I work in the next county, and work regularly with the police. Apart from dress uniform, they are unisex. Black wicking top, black cargo trousers, and black stab vest,
Is a man wearing woman's
Is a man wearing woman's pants crossdressing? Nearly all of my pants are woman's.
I do see a story in there, although that may be because I read it already.
Everything old is new again
For *years* (and possibly even today) transgendered women had to 'dress up' as womyn (lie about ourselves) to get into the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival.
Of course, transgendered *men* were allowed in any which way - including post-op - because the committee which ran the festival absolutely denied the validity of any gender identification except what was on the birth certificate.
This story brought back that bitter little memory: Lie or stay out.
