The problem with an ongoing story is you can only write so much at a time, and eventually get to an ending I know at the moment there are questions concerning the adoption. Just to help with the story line in Canada a child that is 16 years old or older has these rights and more.
Age 16+
You can:
- withdraw from your parent’s control (i.e. leave home) but you may lose your right to financial support [Child and Family Services Act, Children’s Law Reform Act, & Family Law Act]
- apply for a beginners driver’s license [Highway Traffic Act]
- get married with your parents’ consent, a court order or permission from the Minister of Consumer & Business Services [Marriage Act]
- change your name with your parents’ consent or a court order [Change of Name Act]
- provide an advance care directive to refuse emergency medical treatment [Health Care Consent Act]
There is a lot of other rights but this is what i have based Jessica's Legal rights on.

I would like to clarify that the rights you mention are subject to the laws of the individual legal jurisdictions -some 13 without looking at aboriginal conditions which may be under federal jurisdiction. It is a shame that here are such distinctions is one beautiful country.

I used the Ontario Canada
I used the Ontario Canada Model, from what I have found that most provinces here in Canada tend too pretty much share the same model although you are right Ruth there are some differences between provinces.
