*sigh*
I haven't written anything for a while, why?
Hummm, well first of all i was bitten by a Star Wars bug. I was writting a story that was up to 60,000 words. I mean i was on a roll... the story just poured out of me. I know the Star Wars genre hasn't really been seen here on BC, and that's 1/2 of what got my muse going in the first place.
Then someone somewhere sent me a cute little gremlin, he was cute and fuzzy and cuddly and totally had it out for my computer.
Yes... i was forced to reformat with 60,000+ words written.
talk about a complete downer.. *sigh*
i haven't had the heart to write since :(

Well
take your text file and start all over and read it as you format each paragraph hand see where you may want to add more detail too it. Think of it as re-edit instead of rework. And make sure to save a copy on a thumb drive or 2 each night to keep it backed up.
It will do you a lot of good and help take your mind off of the crash.

I think
I think she's saying she had to reformat the hard drive and so lost all her data. With a file that big, I think I might have paid a data recovery expert the bucks to see if it could be recovered. That can be surprisingly cheap sometimes, like two hours work by a real expert can do amazing things.

Erin

I feel your pain
or at least a shadow of it.
I write using my cellphone during my daily train commute, using PlainText, a text editor which syncs to DropBox.
Except.. with the crummy AT&T cell coverage, sometimes the sync operation doesn't work right. I'd just finished an important scene I'd sweated over to get JUST right, and before my eyes, PlainText somehow decides the copy on DropBox is more recent... and overwrites my work.
I haven't felt the inclination to write much since.

Hope that there is some way to recover the data.

data recovery
Unfortunetly I'm a broke scrub... so i do all my own computer repairs and data recovery like that is beyond my abilities. Best that i might get is the first 10,000 words back, because i had e-mailed it to Maggie for her thoughts. It's a start though, would cut my time down on re-writing it. I'll have to send her a message to see if she still has it.
