I went grocery shopping last Friday mostly en femme. That is to say, I was wearing women's clothes but made no attempt to pass. I had no makeup on. My hair was pulled back with a barrette and my shoes were obviously women's with nude knee-hi's and my jacket was a bit bright for a man's. The top I was wearing was definitely feminine, but my jacket was closed to near the top.
As I walked up to the check out line, there were three older men, I say older, because the seemed to be older than I am and I'm sixty-six. Since they hadn't moved up in the line, but were standing back and talking I got in line and started to unload my groceries onto the belt. After a time, one of them, a thin white haired man, noticed my ice cream, which was on the back of the cart and said to me, "You got peanut butter (actually peanut butter cup) and not chocolate." I simply gave him an indulgent smile and turned the second so he could read the label... Mud Pie.
He said, "Oh, I didn't see that one." I went back to putting my groceries on the belt. He waited a few minutes and said, "You must be feeding a lot of people." (I had the weeks groceries for my wife and I in the cart plus we are expecting my oldest daughter for the next week so had added enough for her, not to mention Easter dinner for all and a sundry.) Thinking he was talking about Easter, because that's what was on my mind, I said, "Eight of us," in a soft voice
The store then opened an express line and invited the three of the them to use it since they each only had a couple of items. As they moved he turned back to me and said, "Nice talking to you."
I thought it was odd at the time, but dismissed it because I was busy, but thinking back, I think he was a lonely old man who thought I was a woman he might strike up a friendship with. What do you think?
(BTW although I consider my gender to be female, my sexual orientation heterosexual, following my plumbing, and I'm happily married. [43 years])

maybe not flirting, but it seems clear he saw you as a woman, and probably a not-bad-looking one at that.

Not bad looking?
Well, he wasn't wearing glasses, maybe he needed them. My God, I wasn't wearing any make up. I really need make up to even look feminine. Not to mention, I'm five nine and 216 lb. I'm a big woman.

A woman must remember, after a certain age, about all a man can do is look and flirt and try to remember why he is doing it. LOL
