recently Cael (my external HDD, not the healing mishap character.) died. in this little event I lost:

ALL healing mishap chapters.
ALL RWDWP chapeters
ALL of my final projects
ALL of my legally obtained game data
Most of my personal photos
Most of my music
Most of a lot of other stuff I am too lazy to make a count of.

Also the computer I am working on now is WAAAAY over the specifications I need for what I am doing. For some reason my father thought it would be a good idea to buy a server tower instead of a regular desktop. Runs like a beast but all of the programs it runs are meant to be shared with like 5+ other computers. It runs nice, don't get me wrong but using this computer for something like writing seems a little like hunting a squirrel with a high caliber rifle. Fun but a complete waste of potential.

So everyone who is still waiting on RWDWP and Healing Mishap...You're going to have to wait a bit.

sorry for the wait.

Um

I'm clueless, but is it dead-dead or it is possible to ask someone proficient to try and reanimate it? Or at least recover data?

My experience

I've had a two of these external drives "die", and in both cases it was the electronics between the drive and the computer that quit. Not the drive itself. One drive is now installed in my desktop computer, the other in a replacement case I bought at Radio Shack; and both are chugging along just fine. So if you have a spare drive connection of the proper type in your "beast" try plugging the drive in and you might be pleasantly surprised.

sound strange but might work

When you procure a replacement for the old drive, put the old one in the freezer over night and try to transfer the data when its still cold.
Don't ask me the logic about it, but it's seem to be helping in some case.

Re; Drive failure....

Most new drives, and external types are SATA drives... and as DUMB as it seems to me to do it?... they ALL now have a little TEMPRATURE type of CUT_OFF on them, that makes them once heated-up, into nothing but a door-stop! I have had 3 one-terabyte drives go bad on me for this reason. I am a computer consultant... and used to doing recovery. It now cost $$$ to recover this data... as they now put registration marks (CODE) on the disks main plater that matches one in the electronics, preventing you from changing the board on the drive to do self-recovery of data! GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

I now refuse to buy or recomend such drives... maybe they will stop DOING THIS!
