I've been working on writing a letter that will "out" me to one of my sister's and my brother. I'm hoping things go well, but it's such a risk! I have to do it, though, for my own sanity. I hope they react well to learning they have a very ugly older sister than a big brother. I'm sooooo nervous!

Are you sure that a letter is the way to go about it? Face to face seems better to me. At least you can judge their reactions as you go along. All the best either way.

It's always difficult
with families. I've lived as female for 25 years, accepted as such by pretty well everyone except my daughter in law, who is poisoning my son against me and using that to alienate the rest of his family. She's the one with the problem and has made some outrageous accusations at my ex, who in my opinion has done nothing wrong.
So it's hard to predict what will happen with your family. Is writing the best way to do it? It enables you to make a measured statement of how you feel, but it also enables the recipient to ignore it because it's 'abstract' - you're not there to see the reaction.
There is no easy way to break the news to families or friends. Do what you feel most comfortable with and which you feel will have the best outcome for all concerned. One word of advice, once you start the process you must remain constant to it and not succumbe to moral blackmail to revert, because it's embarrassing or whatever.
