Interesting YouTube comment...

The other day I was sufficiently bored to browse my way through a lively comment war on one of Stefani Germanotta's videos (no prizes for guessing either the song or the entrenched sides), and came across this interesting theory, which I've quoted verbatim (so spelling / grammatical errors in the quote are the commenters, not mine!):

"God created Night and Day...but between them sunset and sunrise to make the day and night more beautiful, god created male and female but between both there are gay and lesbian, transgender ect, why? to make your life colorful, god knows what he created"

Now you may / may not agree with either the concept of a deity or the commentator's specific viewpoint on the reasoning behind LGBTQI, but both the viewpoint and the implied metaphor (just as sunrise and sunset make the 24 hour day more interesting than just day and night, so LGBTQI make the gender spectrum more interesting than just male and female) are certainly interesting.

Sidenote: given the plethora of acronyms relating to gender identities / sexual preferences (LGB, LGBT, LGBTI, LGBTQI...), is there a standard 'one-size-fits-all' term? Even terms such as 'non-standard', 'alternative' or 'unconventional' as part of the construction sound a bit forced, as though the included gender identities / sexual preferences as "not normal..."
