If anybody cares

I enter the local hospital Wednesday morning to have an cardiac catheterization performed, with a distinct possibility of an angioplasty and stenting. I hope that's what happens. The other, (worse) alternative will be a bypass operation, which I really would like to avoid.

Anyway, by about this time tomorrow I should know, although the pre-surgical nurse did mention I could end up being loaded on a med-flight helo and flown to the nearest cardiac care center right away if things are bad enough. I guess that's the worst possibility. :(

So I'm gonna be off-line for awhile. Longer than I'd like, and not long enough for some of you.

Karen J.

Very serious stuff, Karen.

I wish you a safe, successful surgery, a quick and complete recovery, and a long happy life afterward. I will keep my fingers crossed, and I will keep you in my thoughts.

"If anybody cares"?

off-line - "not long enough for some of you"? Ouch. I'm not exactly sure how to respond to that kind of statement. I do hope you will be okay.

Oi! Don't be so pessimistic about us! :)

We're all a fairly friendly bunch (I hope!), so we (probably) all wish you a speedy recovery and hope you'll be back posting asap. OK? :)

Heart operations may sound complicated, but surgeons are highly skilled and know what they're doing - so whatever procedure is performed, it's likely your heart will be healthier after the procedure than beforehand!

Cardiac Op!

Greetings Karen

No operations are fun, but I've had the bypass one, eight years ago and happily cycle a short distance.

Best if you can avoid the op, but it's great to have a successful outcome.

Best wishes, Brian

Karen has been a bit stressed of late. I wish her well ...

In more ways than one. IE both body and spirit.

Heart operations of any kind are serious. I have only two in my immediate family who have had one. My dad who had all the procedures Karen had had except the stents and bypass. But he ended up needing and got an arotic valve replaced. Almost a decade later all is very well. The cow who donated the tissue for his valve, not so good. And this for a man who could hardly wait to get off the dairy farm. Fortunatuely the mooing is at most infrequent.

-- grin--

The other was my cousin David who died from complications of the blue baby opperation, done when he was ten years old because they didn't know how to do it until well into the 1950s. He didn't even have heart/lung bypass, he had hypothermic surgery where they chill the body way down to slow the metaboism.

Heart surgery is far more advanced, as evidenced by my dad's rapid recovery.

I hope all goes well, no nasty surprises, no leaks, no clots, no infections and Karen is back with us soon.

Karen, don't you dare leave us, Got it?

You're in my feeble agnostic prayers, and my not so feeble hopes that after the slicing and fixing heals and you recover from the hospital food you'll feel better than ever!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

While we all don't believe the same things, most of us accept the existence of a Higher Power. Call it prayer, call it sending out positive vibrations... It doesn't even matter what your Higher Power is called.

We are with you in Spirit and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Best Wishes...

My dad went through that - or something very similar about a year and a half ago... Involved being on his side for six hours - with one arm above his head (and all strapped that way - while doctors worked...
