Life would so much less colourful without the Sun and its Scottish edition, from which this story arises.

Hmm....
Interesting article - apart from the emotive language used at the very beginning to draw readers in, and a couple of unnamed employees, it's not too bad an article. At least they used the correct pronouns throughout.
"The guards don't even know how to address this lass."
Err...Nicola? Nicky? :) It's not that hard!
Nonetheless, it sounds as though the prison's ensuring her safety - keeping her in a single room and closely monitoring her when outside her cell. Depending on how long she's in there for, and what opportunities there are for education, it's possible the other inmates may leave the prison significantly better informed about TGs than when they entered...

I think this article is better than the last one
Atleast in this article there was a side opinion from a therapist stating she felt it could be positive having her held in a womans facility and pronoun usage was consistent throughout the article.Just recently I met someone who was going through a similar problem with a local homeless shelter. They were insistant that she stay in a seperate area and only be allowed to use the rest room with an escort to the staff restroom. I had previously stayed at the same shelter and they also had refused to recognize me as TS and the fact that I had breasts from legally prescribed hormones. In my case they wouldn't even allow me the option of using the staff bathroom to shower.I had to sneak into the mens showers as late as possible and hope no one spotted me naked luckily that never happened. Just yesterday I was informed that the shelter had called around to other shelters and found out just how far behind the times they were and have now decided to allow her to be treated just as any other woman. Maybe we'll always be a bit of a curiousity but one can only hope with time and better education people will realize that we are neither better or worse just human beings like everyone else.
Colourful indeed.
I particularly enjoyed the cuddly phrase, "swap op," which seems a sort of rugged but folksy good humour around a subject that would have many US commentators frothing at the mouth and speaking in tongues of fire, denouncing Satan and all His Works, then peeking under the bed for Hell Spawn and Signs of the End Times.
