Four men, two of whom were dressed as women, are in custody after they were caught stealing in a Home Depot, said police department public information officer Stephanie Slater.
Confronted by loss prevention officers, the men attempted to flee, spraying the officers with pepper spray. Many customers also were hit by the spray, Slater said.
The men fled in a Ford Explorer, but were stopped in the parking lot of the store at 1500 SW 8th Street.
Slater said it is not immediately known how many customers were affected by the pepper spray, but one older woman was taken to the hopital after she passed out from the fumes.

About 20 years ago, a transvestite ring composed of up to 100 were doing smash and grab robberies in South Florida. It took some time for police to end that crime spress. The thieves kept giving police the slip.
