There hasn't been much around my way, but I couldn't resist pointing out some of the dafter stories to emerge from the UK's recent snow.

In case it hasn't been reported in your neck of the woods yet: A woman dialled 999 (UK Emergency Services number) to report a theft.

So what?

The item in question was a snowman, with pound coins for eyes.

Understandably, the force has branded her "Completely irresponsible".

Meanwhile, a teenage burglar discovered the hard way that using your feet as a getaway vehicle isn't such a good idea when the ground's covered in snow... the police can simply follow your footprints to where you're hiding out!

Network Rail decided to send two de-icing trains in for servicing. They claim they brought in more modern trains from non-affected parts of the network to replace them. I've used a fairly neutral article from the BBC here, but unsurprisingly the press were scathing.
