I was in fifth grade, and the effects were profound. Many of the kids had read the article, and the teacher, bless her heart, tried to explain what went on. the class members coouldn't keep quiet about it. Either she didn't have a clue or just out and out lied to us.

I can actually thank Christine for something... My mother-in-law, while living in Boston and working for one of the newspapers there as a reporter, interviewed her surgeon for an article... So, when my wife & I explained to her that I was trans, she had known about it for longer than I'd been alive and was quite ready to be accepting (& has been!)...
