For those of you who don't know, Sephrena went home for the Christmas holidays.
She called me, asking me to let everone know that until sometime Monday she's crippled. That is the contractors who are working on her parents house cut the Comcast cable and she's without any connection until it's repaired.
So, for those of you who are waiting for Seph to post something for you; it's a good opportunity for you to learn how to do it yourselves.
If she's been editing something for you, and it's on her computer, she'll keep working on it; she's got nothing else to do.
Being that she's not around to monitor the site; if you were thinking of starting a flame war - Don't, Erin has a big enough headache with her furnace out.
What this is, is an opportunity to prove to everyone that we can play together like good little boys and girls, and prove that we don't need a babysitter, at least we don't need one all the time.
So, be good, play nice, do lots of reading, bring your friends, and keep the sand in the sandbox.

Oh phew!
Sephrena's Internet access is crippled, not Sephrena.
You had me thinking the worst there for a moment.

Contractors
What is it with contractors that some of them seem particularly skilled in unintentionally cutting through services?
Every now and then you hear a tale about a dozy contractor that sliced through someone's telephone cable (Hello? Hello?!) / fibre cable (Downloading...99%...Lost connection...Aaarrggghhh!) / electricity cable (ouch!) / water mains (whoosh!) or gas mains (potentially explosive!)
And it's not just domestic properties - I remember when I was at uni back in the late '90s, we spent a couple of days without 'net access because a dozy contractor doing roadworks about 100 miles away cut through the cable...
EDIT: Oh, I concur with PS. Until I read the post itself, I thought you meant she'd had some kind of accident and was physically crippled. Mercifully, it was only her 'net connection, and that's a little easier to heal than a human body!

I was a contractor for many years.

Just so
What's worse, though, is when the person for whom you're working does something, and blames it on you, the contractor, who was working on something completely unrelated, and never touched the thing that broke. >.< Not that I've >EVER< had to deal with someone trying that... >.>

I was on a fiber project...
We marked the cable with little flags. We told them how deep it was. We specified shovels after 4 feet in depth. They *still* cut the cable because all the people we told weren't with the replacement backhoe operator when that trench had to be dug.
Even worse, the replacement backhoe operator was one of our folks on the project team who knew about that cable. Just a *little* too deep with that last bucketful...
Oh well...

cleaning today. They were really dirty. Getting all those little slats is a pain...
I'm glad Sephie isn't literally crippled, but it's an apt metaphor. Losing the internet feels almost like losing one of your senses. For something I did fine without before it was invented it really has become a major link to the world outside these four walls. I could go chat with my 75 year old neighbor, but it's a struggle finding things in common to talk about. And if I recall correctly Sephrena lives kind of out in the boonies like I do, so I hope she's back with us soon. Before cabin fever sets in...

You scared me there for a minute . The correct spelling for coloring hair is dyeing. I'm so glad it isn't the other word.

Well, Hello! The title was
How else is a silly little blond, like me, going to get everyone's attention, stand on a chair and whistle?
Looking for attention?
Yeah, that title got my attention pronto! But your cute font/color and anime girl are more than enough to grab anyone's attention.
Big Hugs back to you!!!

Server room effect
I was called a few years ago to be told that an alarm was sounding in a server room.
When I arrived, both the primary and secondary aircon units were alarming. The temp in the room was over 80F. I had to take the decision to shutdown the servers before talking to the remote 'helpdesk', this knocked out two distinct essential networks. I only kept the PABX running by propping the doors open.
When I phoned the site's electrical manager he told me that contractors had gone through a 415V three phase supply and it could be a 'day or two' before services were restored. My threats to close the operation down (a very important ferry port) did help a little, although my managers wouldn't have supported me.
Oh, the nationality of the contractors - I'm not saying. It might mean a JCB through my house frontage.

Mostly Harmless
Phew!
I know our Sephy is not a well woman but you did grab my attention. I promise to try and play fair - but I'm only human (though some might dispute that).
Contractors, who'd have them? Though it was a contractor c***-up that once got me a job, so I shouldn't complain too loudly. We used to have regular power outages at work, and they were almost always blamed on 'road repairs'.
Let's face it; anything designed and built by humans will probably fail eventually - though sometimes a little assistance 'helps'.

Construction contractors
As opposed to IT Contractors or those from any other industry, always appear to be the main culprits.
OK, so you can't entirely blame them if nobody pointed out there were likely to be cables / pipes / ducts in the path of the hole they were trying to dig.
But it's well known (over here at least) that almost every time you look at a construction site, the workers are having a tea break.
And you certainly don't want to hire the people responsible for building the foundations to this tower block: http://tr.im/HoHK
It was a 13 storey block in soft terrain - but they used hollow concrete piles. To make matters worse, a hole was dug on the South side of the building under where it collapsed) and the soil piled on the North side. Heavy rains caused the ground to shift southwards, severing the piles, after which it was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened (although having said that, the rest of the building is pretty darn solid - hardly a pane of glass broken!). Needless to say, people who'd laid a deposit on a purchase of the flats aren't happy and are demanding double compensation (which, unsurprisingly, is significantly more than the company's offering) - and purchasers of flats in the other blocks are trying to pull out as well, for fairly obvious reasons.

Happy the blog was not about you personally
Glad you're back Sephie. I can appreciate that you are okay after the way the blog header was written.
In my own person life I had a vascular vein by pass in my right leg on the 18th of April. I came home from the hospital on the 22nd unable to move my right leg. I spent three weeks on my back watching television. I have cable and to be honest I have lost interest in the television since that period of time.
I'm still supposed to stay off the leg so the swelling will go down, but I hace committments that i have to make and be there personally. I use a cane to get around at home. I have a wheelchair that I am supposed to use when not at home. (I only use it af the VA hospital)
for some reason I can stay centeres and have started many stories since being laid up but noe are even close to being finished.
MY doctors(the vascular ones) say I may never be able to have SRS due to the vascular disease being in my entire body. Some of the horemones and androgen blockers will not work with the meds I am taking. I suggested we change meds but I have to wait until I am out of pain and back to normal(I've never been normal).
Stay Healthy, and God bless
