Authors Note: This story attempts to adhere to hard science until about the halfway point; then it uses contrived plot devices to advance the narrative how I’d like. Although some of the objects may seem fantastical, they work with known physics, even if the engineering requirements are unfathomable today. A few chapters may be exposition heavy, but I’ll do my best to interlace it with dialogue so it doesn’t get stale. If you like this story then I believe you’d love Isaac Arthur’s YouTube channel, if you don’t like this story but enjoy futurism then you may still love his channel. I will try to live up to the high standard he’s taught me to expect from hard sci-fi until I abandon it completely.

What makes you the person you are? If it's just your beliefs, abilities, and memories, can your mind be replaced without destroying you? Is there still a point in doing anything when machines are better at doing everything?

Kaleb Kardashev is determined to create a technological utopia, but President Stone just wants to preserve human dignity. What are they willing to sacrifice to achieve their vision of the future?

Another New Story

Aurum's picture

I'm sorry I haven't posted a new chapter for any of my other stories in a while. This will be the last universe I plan to start concurrently. I've been on a huge sci-fi bender the past few weeks... months... years. Oh my where does the time go? ~wink wink~ Anyways, this will hopefully live up to my high standards for good sci-fi. Please give some feedback as it proceeds along, I'll try to balance my obsession with realistic space spectacle and the need for character driven narrative.

  • Eldertale - I've done a lot of story mapping for its universe so I hope to start writing more chapters for it soon. I'm currently halfway thru chapter three, but I want to make sure I don't write myself into a corner.
  • Purgatory: ReLife - I may post some more chapters, but honestly I'm not struggling with those issues as much so the narrative doesn't flow when I go to write.
  • Synergy - it's interesting, of all my story ideas it still holds a special place in my heart, but years ago my computer with all my research died. I simply cannot re-find the information I once had, and trust me, I've looked. I know I could abandon some historical accuracy, but I've never come to terms with that. It's sort of like when save data gets corrupted on a game you love, no matter how much you try, you can't get into it like you used to.
  • Utopia - I haven't published any of the chapters yet. I won't publish any until I get to about chapter ten, which is a good thing because I've rewritten the first few chapters many times. Once it gets to the right point it will fall within the Kronos universe, but no other spoilers shall be given.
