I gave serious thought to killing Evi Westcott off this time. Her diary just won't quit, there are more characters than War and Peace, and she hasn't even started college yet. All the friends could have come to her funeral and said what a swell girl she was. Anyway, I tried out some scenarios on my friends, one of them (the scenario, not the friend) shamelessly plagiarized from la Traviata, but no one was buying it. So here's Part VI of Balthasar's Extract. If you like it, drop me a note and tell me why.

No Daphne, please!
PLEASE don't kill Evi off! I understand that describing every day of her life makes this potentially endless,
and on top of it you're attempting the biography of the 20th Century, so yes it's a mammoth task. But I've read published diaries, collected letters and such that had big gaps in them. I'm sure you could find a way to skip a couple of years if you need to. Something like (and forgive my lame imitation of Evi's voice):
I had suspected the old hotel wasn't safe, but dear Vaslav was a nervous wreck prior to his premier performance of The Rite of Spring the next day---and especially with how that beastly Dighaliev has been treating him since he had finally put his foot down regarding their liason---and begged me to stay with him that night. When the fire tore through the Hotel Josephine at 2 a.m. we barely escaped with our lives. A small consequence compared to the fate that befell so many of the establishment's guests, but nonetheless quite vexing to me, was that I had brought this year's diary, and last years as well, in hopes of finding a passage that I wanted to read to my dancer friend. And those were lost. The record of over a year of my life swept into the skies over Paris by that unholy conflagration. Allow me to recap...
Anyway, I'm gonna find me a chunk of time and read this latest part ASAP.
I love this series, and Evi, her friends and all her cool adventures...
