Chris and I are planning to post the next part of the Eerie saga, "Eerie Saloon: Seasons of Change -- Spring" in early 2014. We apologize about the delay. Life happens.
Here's my question. The story will have thirteen chapters, each between 45 and 75 pages. How often should we post a chapter?
Twice a week (3-4 days)
Once a week
Twice a month (every two weeks)

If it were for me, I'd say 'all at once'; but then, I'm a speed reader.
For the average person, I'd say that a 45 page story shouldn't be posted faster than twice a week. If you have the story done, I don't see a reason for stretching it out to months, or a year.
I'd suggest something like Monday/Thursday, or Monday/Friday - that gives the full week for one part, and the weekend for the other.
If you're going to post once a week, then it doesn't matter what day.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

well sorta, i wouldn't call myself a speed reader, but i get wrapped up into a story and never stop till it's done.
I cant buy a book unless i know i have a full day to read it, and when i do i read cover to cover non-stop.

I didn't think of that before, but I am almost certainly a speedy binge reader. It's a habit from my teen years when my best friends were books.

I'm not a speed reader, but standard paperback novel of 300+ pages can't sustain me for more than one day :-)

For maximum reads on long chapters
For maximum reads on long chapters, two or three times a week works best. Those chapters sound on the long side even for that rule, so two a week would probably be ideal. Shorter chapters can be posted more often and still get optimum reads.
Remember, any chapter longer than about 9,000 words is subject to the limitations of the Drupal 64k formatting buffer at BC; it will take longer to chunk such long chapters and download to the readers. It's not a big deal as long as you have blank lines between paragraphs so the chunker has breaks to work with but readers should be aware of the speed difference.

With twice a week. That's a good spread for a long story, doesn't lose the continuity for the readers and keeps the interest going a lot better.

Like everyone else here is saying, a couple a week seems to be a good way to keep the reader's attention and the story flowing.
For longer series, where you post as soon as you finish writing them, once a week has worked for many authors here in the past, but it sounds like you're planning on finishing the entire story before releasing it to the public? That's probably a good way to go about it, so you can avoid risking taking a 2-month random hiatus in the middle of a book... :D

with Bibliophage. The twice a week thing I think is best. I personally prefer a once a week thing for my own stuff so I don't push other's stuff down the page too fast, but with all the postings these days that's going to happen anyways.

Now that the celebratory shouts and accolades for signs of progress are out of the way, I'd suggest one or two parts a week. Not everyone can get to all the story segments at once, and real-life does interfere with reading, so spacing them out a little gives time, and it's also not unusually cruel to those who want to read faster. How long did you wait between Star Wars and Empire? Between Back to the Future and BttF 2? Between the movies of the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Waiting makes the reward all the sweeter!

I would like to say as fast
I would like to say as fast as possible since even with slower readers the next chapter will still be ready to read when you are done with the current. Some of my fav. stories have been ones that i came to where they where done already and I could sit down and read them all in one sitting.
Every Four Days
Last one I did was every four days, which seemed like a good number. It usually had the previous story pushed off or at the bottom of the list
Long Time Ago
When I was old enough to choose, comics were in the corner drug store and the library had hardbacks. When book stores became plentiful, I couldn't buy a single paperback to read. I had to buy the whole series if available and I would search other stores and used book shops for them. I would then do a marathon reading.
I could and did spend hours in my local library and when I when to college at the various libraries on campus.
That habit has unfortunately carried over to e-books on Kindle like devices and notices of new works by authors I follow. I protect e-books from remote deletion, which doesn't make sense, by copying to Calibre for long term storage.
I still kick myself for sending all of those paperbacks to the used book shop when I moved.
For on-line like here, if I get attached to a story I may download chapters as they become available and do a marathon reading or more likely a rereading when finished.
Disk space is cheap and I can reread a really good author. On the multiple passes I know I pick up more imagery and understanding. I like digital books now because you can look up words, terms and quotes with the click of a mouse. The only thing better would be if the authors notes/bible/research were to be available for deeper understanding.
I always liked the teachers edition of books and bought a lot of cliffsnotes and classic comics to get second and third opinions when assigned literature to read.
I think you should publish in a frequency you are comfortable with. I know I appreciate a steady flow of stories but wouldn't want an author to burnout just to meet some artificial deadline.
