Is it working?

Life the last two weeks has once again derailed my writing. I was working on a comedy fantasy piece, which seems to be coming together, but I’ve now ended up working on a story in far darker places. Anyway I’m writing blind, not sure if I’m writing something worth reading or just putting words on the page. If anyone is bored and has a few minutes to look at a hunk of a story (and can face my writing), head over to...

Hypatia's Place

And to steal from Douglas Adams, either die in the vacuum of space or tell me how bad my story is...

It's hard to work in those darker places. Can't see the paper (or keyboard).

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

The light...

It's 5.50am here at the moment, so I should be able to see the keyboard soon ;-)

Hi Hypatia,

Yes, the new story is dark, but, it isn't the first of your works to have dark beginnings. I, for one, do not care about the beginning of your stories, but rather, to request, humbly, for you to continue writing the story to the end. You have piqued my interest with this teaser. Please go on letting your imagination flow from your mind, through your finger-tips into the ether of the Internet that is your connection to us your loyal readers.

As always, I thank you for sharing the products of your fertile mind with all of us.

with love,

Hope

Once in a while I bare my soul, more often my soles bear me.

Thanks :-)

Thanks Hope,

It's coming, not exactly the easiest story to write, but that is mainly down to Lancelot, who seems to have a problem with storytellers in general and at this moment with me in particular. However the words are still hitting the page and I've now sort of got it into my head that the story is actually making some sort of sense to other people and I'm not just living in my own strange delusional state.

This means when Lancelot starts getting gobby I can now tell him to sod off :-)

Lots of Hugs,

Hypatia

Once upon a time ...

... when you first posted stories (at Story Site?) you were a good story teller but crap at English. I remember contacting you in despair as I so much wanted to read your story but the barrier was too difficult to climb. I'm delighted to see that you're still a very good story teller and the barrier is no more. I can only guess you've either been practising or you've managed to control the flood of words to a rate you can write them down easily rather than have them tumbling over themselves in their enthusiasm to be read.

I'm no longer a fan of fantasy fiction so much (no idea why because I used to be. Must be old age) but what you've written so far is really very good even if I have no idea where it's going. If that's what you want to write then continue. You'll get lots of readers, that's for sure.

best wishes

Robi

Thanks :-)

Thanks Robyn,

I really value your opinion :-)

I still am crap at English, I can't spell and my grammar is awful. However my fingers do seem to have picked up a working knowledge that is totally inaccessible to my brain. So I just let my fingers do their own thing and I only get involved at the creative level.

It seems to work...

Thanks very much and lots of hugs,

Hypatia

My god, don't stop writing!

I've read some of your older stories at least a dozen times each--most especially The Oracle of New Delphi and A Fistful of Dragons, though I also loved how much Mea Culpa reminded me of the work of Andrew Vachss.

Your new fragment seems promising. You haven't typically written weak protagonists, so I'm itching to see what happens when your latest heals enough to be a serious force in the story.

The thing about your writing that really speaks to me is that your characters are three dimensional, full of life, and are ABOUT something. Being TG does not define them, and it certainly isn't what they're about. It's simply an aspect of who they've come to be, an additional complication on their journey towards what they perceive to be much larger things in their lives.

Katherine, Wendy, Anne, Bernard, Jimmy, David, Suki... Cyrena, Yedda, Lizzie... They've earned a permanent place on my bookshelf and I enjoy revisiting them when I'm in need of the company of friends. Right next to Maggie Finson's Morgana and Curtis and Rebekkah's Rikki and Gina.

So please, please...

Keep Writing!

A rabid fan,
