Regrettably chapter 80 of Somewhere Else Entirely will be delayed...

I've written 5,000 words so far and just realized that I have put the cart before the, er, dranakh.

I am also fighting off a persistent chest infection which, together with the very cold weather is disrupting general life around here. I now have antibiotics so I hope to recover over the next week or so to previous levels of (un)fitness.

About that chapter... I was going great guns and then realized that certain events about to happen hadn't been scheduled properly. Chapter 80 is now, therefore, chapter 81 and I have to begin a whole new chapter about two new characters who will have a bearing on what happens subsequently.

Upside is, I have half of chapter 81 already written! That means that I should be able to finish it and get it out not long after 80 - but: the following couple of chapters after that will be really crucial. Fikt will be back and things are coming to a head. I'll have to consider those carefully. Nuff said!

So, Fikt is a pimple?

The last one was a day early, this one will be a bit late.. I think we can forgive you :)

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Penny, take care of your health, please. Will be fun seeing how you will lance the boil known as Fikt.

Re-writes

Some times you do need to re-write or move things around when you work on stories. Worse is when you have to discard stuff, even if you can use parts of it.

Being ill doesn't help, I know. Please take what time you need. The high quality you've already written deserves it. This is the good stuff!

Thanks Penny

Appreciate the status update. Take care of yourself.

Know the feeling well, Penny

You get to somewhere in a story and realize a major chunk is NOT in the right place so you have to move it. Then that changes something else and... like one of those finger puzzles that you try to make a picture by moving each piece one at a time.

As to your health...TAKE care.

My sister had mild pneumonia a few years back that became full blown double pneumonia and a week in the hospital. Did some permanent harm to her lungs, not good as she is an asthmatic. All because they chose the wrong antibiotic.

Get well and surprise us with your tale.

And if you don't have Keren and Garia happily humping each other and popping out baby princesses and princes like a machinegun soon we WILL get violent! And as to Snep and his new girllfreind...

Backing up a bit

In an earlier chapter you have the locals bringing a unknown device to Garia, who recognizes it as being a complete version of a mechanism that was found in the ocean in the sea near Greece. I don't know if you watch Nova on PBS, the episode that aired just last week (Apr. 3, 2013) discussed that device and how the complete mechanism functioned. The episode "Ancient Computer" can be watched online here:

Fascinating stuff, especially when you consider it accurately predicted the position of the planets in the sky while adhering to the Greek notion that everything, including the sun, revolved around the Earth.

That Was Really Good

Thanks Karen. The program was really good, and it played beautifully on my old computer at full screen.
