First off, thank you all for the twenty responses I got and for the responses Grover got on his thread. That was very cool and gave me a warm fuzzy. I did kind of need that.

As for the surgery itself, it went great. They got the majority of the stones on both sides, easily getting the larger stones, and leaving some of the smaller, more easily passable stones. It took the full two hours to accomplish as there was a lot to do. The docs really worked hard to take care of me and do it right.

The problem that developed was in the recovery room. They could not control my pain. I was in the recovery room from about 930 until about 415. 6 hours and 45 minutes of trying to deal with this issue. During the course of this I got ill from the pain. I can now say I honestly know the color of bile, so yay me. I was sweating and overheating from the pain and they gave me a mini fan at one point that really helped a lot. I had trouble holding down ice chips. It sucked. I even ran out of drugs that I could be given for the pain. They eventually had to give me pills from my 'take home' stuff.

They wanted me at at least a 4 in terms of pain when I left. I was at a 7. I left because the doctor cleared me. There was some worry that there might be some sort of blockage or buildup in the bladder, that I might not actually be able to pee, so the catheterized me. That sucked, and got out some more fluid but all in all, there was no danger. So the final hypothesis was that with all the work they did my system was reacting a great deal. Thus my everything hurt and felt swollen and stuff. But fundamentally there was no other issues. I got sent home.

So I am on narcotics and motrin. My whole body hurts, from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet, but the pain in my kidneys is gone. This give me a serious happy. Despite all the pain and discomfort, it was very successful. Here's hoping that I can avoid a repeat of this problem.

Thank you all again for your prayers and energy.

I glad

that you're recovering. I shudder every time I read of your time because I've had them too, but not nearly as bad. The pain is not good. I'm told pain bad enough to cause nausea is really bad. Been there didn't like it.

Let's hope you can prevent another episode as well as recover.
Big Gentle hugs.
Grover

PS: You're not a red head are you? They, we, really are mutants with a gene that makes us feel things like pain more intensely than most. Could explain part of that problem. I always have to have double the numbing stuff at the dentist because the first shot is never enough.

Could also explain why red heads are thought to be so hot tempered since we appear to react more to stuff that most just blows off. It can't hurt that much! Wrong!!!! :)

Before I started laser

Before I started laser treatment the only red hair I had was in my beard. It came in screaming Irish red. It came in so red that I had to dye the rest of my hair red to stop people from asking my I had dyed my hair blonde. It was kind of funny. So, I wonder if that counts.

Yes, it counts. I have a similar problem - the hair on top of my head (what's left of it) is basically brown, but the beard hair up to the sideburns is still red.

However, I have a strange pain threshold. The last cavities I had filled, I didn't bother with anesthetic. (the crown, however, I did)

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Oustanding

glad it wqent as well as it did. Of course, using ultrasound to break them up would have been too easy. Did they possibly suggest a diet similar to gout control to help prevent more stones forming. I have to be very careful due to the uric acid crystals, and have to drink over a gallon of water a day to help prevent stone formation, and avoid foods that would help both the uric acid crystals form, and the stones to develop. Takes away a lot of good things to eat, but the horror stories have helped me stay cool so far. Been on it since the 80's and no stones yet. (silent heave of thanks)

Since my stone type have changed a few times I am possibly going to get different diet instructions. Once my wife gets those you can be that I will be following them. I already drink about a gallon of water a day and have since this whole thing has begun in 97.
