In some areas of my life I am unapologetically weird. Pantyhose make me feel claustrophobic, so I always wore gartered stockings, which I gave up on when I was Muslim, because with floor length skirts, who needs anything but cotton anklets? So, now that I have rejoined a wider community, I can wear skirts up to my knees, so in more formal situations, I need to wear stockings again.
The problem is that the stockings I have purchased lately feel like pot scrubbers on my legs and this confuses me. Is the fact that almost everything is made in china now the causation? Or have my legs simply gotten softer?
I did find some real silk stockings, but they are $36 a pair. NOT! So what am I going to do?
I am jolly well not about to wear pants, because in my own little strange reality, pants are for men! Oh, I can manage Salwar Kameeze because there is the top for the modestly and the pants are very soft, but that is not for every day and not often either.
What a funny world I live in.

that's why I dont wear stockings
As sexy as I find them, they cost too much, rip too easily.
I try to avoid both!
I don't have a lot of hair on my legs, so unless it's really cold, I go bare. Even at the office. Garter straps tend to show under my skirts (I wear them a little tight!), so i wear tights when it's cold.
Probably not much help, I know. I don't like hose. :(
And Salwar Kameez are totally cute!

There are two types of fabric used for sheer nylon stockings. One is the cheap kind, some kind of circular knit which is very stretchy. They're also very fragile, and even if you don't snag them, they get tiny pills and pulls that make them unevenly "cloudy" pretty fast. The other is flatter, smoother and not as stretchy, more like a weave, and retain their classy sheerness longer. I'm very fond of Berkshire lace-top thigh-highs. They're a bit more durable than the cheap type, contain lycra, and if you buy a few pairs of the same, at least you can make whole pairs out of the leftovers after you destroy a couple of individual stockings. Berkshire also makes a very lovely lacetop in gartered stockings.
If you don't have one, buy a mesh lingerie bag for washing them, and never put them in the machine with bras, garters, zippers or hooks. That's where a lot of them get destroyed, in my experience. And keep your nails properly manicured and your hands moisturized. I've damaged more stockings from handling them than wearing them. A microscopically-split nail, or even a tiny bit of dry skin poking out of a fingertip, can cause a pull in a stocking.
