Does anyone know if cadets at the Naval Academy get summers off or a spring break? I'm doing a little research for my next story and i can't seem to find the answer :(
You can PM me or respond to this.
Thanks!

According to the calendar of the academic year, there is a spring break, a period of about 8 days. There are also Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and short intersession periods between semesters. Go to the link above.
If I recall correctly, there are midshipman cruises between the Jr. and Sr. years, and these are interesting times where shipboard life is experienced. The Mediterranean was a favorite area to be assigned as there were frequent shore leaves.

USNA and ROTC (thats a real school)
both have a 5 week cruise after the first year, usually teamed with a enlisted running mate on a ship. after the second year a week spent with aviation community, a week with sub community, a week with surface community and a week with the marines. the 5 weeks cruise before the senior year is usually back on a ship teamed with a Jr. officer. hope that helps.

Perhaps someone else has access to similar information for Canada, the United Kingdom, or another country if that is what you were looking for.
Leave and Privileges
The Naval Academy’s combined academic, military and physical development programs demand a lot of effort, requiring you to spend more time on campus than the typical civilian college student. But midshipmen enjoy Christmas and summer vacations (leave) plus shorter periods of time off (liberty). Free time to be away from the academy is based in large part on assigned military responsibilities, performance in academic and military endeavors and class seniority. You earn more liberty and privileges each year you advance at the academy. All midshipmen generally are granted leave during these periods:
Thanksgiving leave
Christmas vacation at the end of the fall semester
Mid-term leave during spring semester
A short break at the end of spring semester and before Commissioning Week
At least 3 weeks of summer vacation.
During semesters of the academic year, off-campus privileges fall into two categories: town liberty and weekend liberty. Weekend liberty permits you to leave the academy after your last military obligation on Friday afternoon and return Sunday evening. Liberty curfews differ according to seniority. You are not eligible for liberty if you are assigned a military duty/watch (rotated responsibilities) or if you are having serious difficulty in academics, conduct or military performance. Generally, town and weekend liberty is authorized for midshipmen as follows:
Plebes have town liberty on Saturday afternoons and evenings and liberty within the Naval Academy complex on Sundays. Special weekend liberty may be granted on special occasions.
One liberty weekend each semester is authorized for third-classmen, three a semester for second-classmen and five (except for watch/ duty weekends) for first-classmen.
Weekday and weekend liberty is graduated according to seniority.
USNA
When you enter (plebe or freshman) year you have summer training from swearing in right after July 4 and it lasts until school starts. Christmas break was a couple weeks with finals before break. usually a weekish for spring break. You can catch hops on military flights if you're lucky. Summer leave depends on what else you have happening. If you are on a deployed unit ie missile sub on patrol you may be gone for all of it. For me in '77 I did a week off then six weeks on a ship acting in an enlisted capacity(junior enlisted I stood watch and chipped paint). Then youngster or sophomore year. Academic breaks the same but during summer we had five or six weeks military training to introduce us to all the different warfare communities in the Navy plus the Marines (who are part of the Navy too lol). Second class year or junior year academics same as before but more so. Summer break like the one before youngster year but acting as a (very) junior officer. Leave dependent on assigned ships unless you are assigned to train the new plebes. Very variable. First class or senior year academic leave then graduation week and commissioning as Ensign, US Navy or Second Lieutenant, US Marine Corps. Midshipman is a legal rank falling between CWO 2 and 3. Midshipmen prefer to be called Mids or Midshipmen not middies (that's a freaking skirt!).
Freshma = Midshipman Fourth Class or Midn 4/C or plebe
Sophomore = Midshipman Third Class or Midn 3/C (from the date of seniors graduation in May) or youngster
Junior = Midshipman Second Class or Midn 2/C or segundo
Senior = Midshipman First Class or Midn 1/C or firstie. Command positions in the brigade of midshipmen will be assigned midshipman rank. E.g Mindshipman Ensign, Midshipman Lieutenant junior grade, Midn Lieutenant, Midn Lt. commander or Midn LCDR etc up to Midn Captain I believe.. Been ages years. Hope it helps. Life can be interesting there as a student. Lol
