Though I haven't lived in San Jose since 2010, I still read the online version of the paper. I did live there or work within the range of the printed paper from 1973 - 2010, and have many friends living there, so I still identify with the city. Besides, I like their online comics!

about the murder of a transgendered woman does give her name as James (Lucie) Parkin.
But, it states that her transgendered status was not the cause of the murder, and most importantly,
ALL OF THE PRONOUNS USED FOR HER ARE FEMALE.
True, they do say she was a 'preop transgendered man'. But I think if they had called her a 'preop transgendered woman', it would still confuse the issue. They were talking about her current physical condition in this case, and calling her a 'preop transgendered woman' could be interpreted as he being F to M. Sort of a case of no matter how they cover it, somebody can interpret it incorrectly.
The San Jose paper has been careful for a long time, to use the proper pronouns for our community in news articles the paper creates.
They have not used them in repeating copyrighted articles from outside agencies, such as the Associated press, true, but I believe they are doing an excellent job otherwise.

It's good that they got the
words right, I'm just happy that they caught the assbag that shot her and man is he in deep stuff. Having a gun while on probation? That's like a new charge I believe. No whining your way out of that.
Don't beleve everything you read
In the late 1960's I went to a talk given by Allen Ginsburg at the college I was attending. After it was over I walked out of the meeting room and started to talk to another student. We overheard a reporter giving his report to what is still a major newspaper with the same political slant. If I didn't see him leave that same room I would have sworn that the reporter and I were at two different lectures. Moral:

the use of pre-op transgendered man with she wanted to be called a woman or some similar phrase - it took so long to load I nearly lost the will to live.
