The artist, Tyler Hoare, plans to install them this weekend.
Not counting the time they were taken down as eyesores, he says they only last about 5 years maximum before the forces of nature destroy them. Some of his other creations have lasted as little as a day, because they were down at the waterline.
This may be the last time he can do it, though, as not only he is getting older, ( he's in his 70s), but there are only 3 posts left of the 20 or so that were there to mount his masterpieces on when he started.

The discussion a month or two back drew so many nostalgic comments, I thought I should follow it up with this news, which gives a lot of authentic background, including why they have disappeared and reappeared in the past.

okay, this is weird
I was the one who started that thread a couple months ago and last night I got bored and went to that blog so I could find a link to get me to those pictures. Just about 7 hours ago and now you post this story. Weird.
I just wish I had the money to take a trip to the bay area, and not Bay City here in Michigan. I would love to go to Livermore and see my Aunt and Uncle's old place, the places my mom showed me when I was younger. I miss that part of the state, but I am too broke to live there. That man who made them is an awesome dude and each community needs more people like him, someone who beautifies his town with nostalgia.
Praise the Lord
Now I'll have something to look at while waiting in line to cross the Bay Bridge. That section of I 80 is one of the worse traffic spots in the Bay Area, Arecee
I recall
flooding down there in I think 1997? could have been '96. I was going to visit a friend who had moved to Pittsburg and later I went to visit my Aunt and Uncle in Livermore and I got stuck for 3 hours on the Benicia Bridge because the highway flooded on the Concord side. was down to one lane and that was waterlogged too. But waiting to get on the Bay Bridge is pretty bad. Kinda like Chicago at most hours of the day
They look great.
My only regret is that they aren't flying models. The quality of the models looks like Tyler would be perfectly capable of making a good job. I know of a group here in the UK who build and fly 1/3 scale WW1 aeroplanes and both DR1 Fokker triplanes and Camels are popular prototypes.
Certainly not eyesores in my book though I guess they may get tatty if left out in all weathers. Thanks for that, Holly.

I had to do this. I tried to
I had to do this. I tried to deny the urge, but everyone needs some Snoopy in their lives
Beagle Vs Baron from one of the many Charlie Brown specials

A Canadian friend of mine still insists that a Canadian shot down the Red Baron and I refuse that. Snoopy was clearly an American dog.
And here's the song that almost all of us have heard at some point in our lives, sorry, it's a bit loud at the start, so be ready to turn down the volume
