Not mtuch changed since my last blog. Passed the written part of drivers ed, made my mom, sisters, niece and the respectieve SO's eat sushi during my B)day dinner and, ..., I'm still officially on sickleave which is getting to be a real drag (understatement).

Looking for a car to buy for the hands on part of drivers ed (it seems to people outside Belgium that we have a weird drivers ed system or so I'm told). And that is making me count every cent. Especially with winter around the corner and the need for 'mazout' and gas.

PS starting to wonder who's been or lived in Belgium here
PPS seriously, getting hit on by guys irl is getting really old -> why can't it be women that do that ...

UK system is similar

Leaner drivers have to do a written test before doing the actual driving test. I think they have a year to do it in, but I'm not sure. If it's just a question of needing a car to sit the test, over here you can usually book a lesson and the car for use for the test from a driving school. It usually costs you the price of two lessons but is probably cheaper than buying a car.

Do fatter drivers get out of the written part of the test? *grin*

I passed my car test over 52 years ago when there wasn't any of that written stuff and I think it cost a quid to take it in the driving school car (I had a motor cycle at the time and bought a new one the week after passing the car test). My motor cycle test, 2 years earlier, only cost 10 bob (50 pence).

Not driven much in Belgium but (pedal) cycled a lot. I like the place and the people but for cycling prefer the hillier south where there are fewer irritating cycle paths.

After a drivers e course of

After a drivers ed course of about 20h, I'm expected to drive around and take my exame between the 3 and the 18th motnh (end of validation of my learners permit). . With other words, I'll be driving around, alone, with only a few houres driving eperience and without having passed any 'real' drving exams (although the person teaching the course has to certify that I finished the course with a satesfactory).

it would appear that most driving test are written test first
then the drivng exam
as other authors have said it would be easier if you looked around for a driving school that will supply a vehicle to take the test in
and of course it would be cheaper

lolz that's the problem ->

lolz that's the problem -> it's already about 1300euro for the course. And they only teach you the basics about handling a car. But you need enough hands on experienze to be able to pas the drivers exam. If I would use the driversschool for al of it I think I would be out of pocked for the price of middle class new car (think ford focus or VW Golf) just to get enough houres under my belt.

I"m planning to drive around for at least a year before taking the exam (minimum 30.000km). But, I need to be able to drive a car for that, which means buying one.

Besides if I wanted to do have a 'teacher' in the car I would have taken the class A route (learners permit with ''teacher' in the car)
