I am frustrated with my work already

well, I'm very ticked off. Apparently, the schedule I was given wasnt worth the paper it was written on. The night supervisor called me tonight wondering where I was. According to him, I was supposed to give him the schedule they gave me and have him sign off on it, and without any input from me, he booked me for tonight. So I'm one day into my new job and am already at odds with my manger. Sigh.

You're still learning the system-relax!

Take your time, do the job the best you can. Everyone makes mistakes, you just need to learn from them. I know it's going to feel awkward for a while, but relax and open yourself to the experience. You have a job as yourself! Enjoy it, hon!

Put a smile on your and whistle why you work.

Dear Dorothy,

Big box store are very beaurcratic, with each assistant manager and department supervisor thinking that they are the top dog. There is little you can do about it. Go into work early today, and meet with this supervisor. Appologize, even if it isn't your fault. Ask him for guidance. Tell him to let you know how to improve.

Then, but a smile on your face, and whistle why you work, as long as that is not a violation of the rules. ;-).

If you think he is picking on you because of you being Dorothy, document it. If necessary, but only if necessary, go over his head, to the person who gave you that schedule.

If You Quit Now

joannebarbarella's picture

You lose my sympathy. Sorry, but you're starting to sound like a drama queen.

Think:
1) You have a job
2) You have a job as Dorothy
3) It's one day old
4) If you lose it or quit how is that going to sound to your next interviewer?

Now get some sense, girl,

Joanne

Yep, wecome to my world.

That's the thing about a job. You show up when they say, not when you want to. They are always right, even if they aren't. You have to be obedient even when they anger you. You have to smile when you don't want to. It sucks but I did it from when I was 12 until I was 57.

Much peace

Gwendolyn

Drama QUEEN

Amen on the DRAMA QUEEN , Dotty you know I like you and support you BUT tjis is the Walmart way my wife has 10 years of this kind of B S so just grin and say OK MR. BIG SHOT manager and go with the flow. You got what you wanted a job as Dorothy don't "F" it up HUGS GIRLFRIEND---RICHIE2

Keep it in perspective

In service industry jobs from just listening to store clerks and the like this does not sound that unusual. I take it you are getting a full 40 hour work week and am considered full-time? Well that is great 'cause Walmart is well known in the states to keep folks at 39 hours to keep them as part time.

Or you can take the route I had to go to avoid the service job jungle: I went back to school for another degree before going back into a professional environment. Does Walmart provide ANY educational support? If you have fixed classes maybe they will be more flexible for those nights.

In the mean time, you are getting social experience and the like.

Hang in there.

I Had The Same Thing Happen

jengrl's picture

PICT0013_1_0.jpg I had the same thing happen when I worked at Walmart. I checked my schedule on the break room wall and it showed I had the following day off. I got a call the next day wondering where I was. I got ready and came in to work pretty steamed. I went to the break room and looked at the schedule. Someone had changed it between the time I went home the previous night and that day. I wish I had had a cellphone with a camera on it, but that was back before phones had the features they have now. I would have taken a picture of the schedule and then I could have proved it had been tampered with if the manager tried to say anything.

Wait, wait. This is

Wait, wait. This is Wal-Mart? To be honest this kind of bullshit doesn't surprise me. I'm actually amazed they're not jerking you around for being Dorothy.
Make sure they don't try to hose you if you're working overtime either as I've heard they've made people work the extra hours without the overtime pay.
