Don't know if anyone has been following the It Gets Better Project (www.itgetsbetter.org), but it's been one awesome YouTube video after another, telling bullied LGBTQ kids (and others) that there is hope for their future lives, that they are valued and will be loved, that the despair, isolation, and bullying of high school is but a temporary hurdle, and not to go and off themselves. Ordinary folks and famous ones, the powerless and the powerful are participating with wonderful supporting videos. They're not all gold, but some of them are outstanding.

The awesomest video to post recently is a dance track music video written and performed by Rebecca ("Beck") Drysdale, a gay comedienne. There's nothing funny about the song, though. It's an in-your-face declaration of strength and affirmation. The words are awesome, and the music will either grab you, or grow on you after you've listened to it a couple dozen times, depending on your tastes.

If you wear your emotions on your sleeve, get the large box of tissues ready before you click on the link. I've listened several times, and it makes my eyes leak every time. They're leaking now, just thinking about the effort and love that went into this:

I've got the lyrics, which were transcribed by a poster on Slog and touched up a little afterwards. I'm not going to post them here right now because they're rude and full of hurtful words. But, those words are used with contempt towards the bullies who use them, and from a position of a powerful song of affirmation. If you want them, send me a PM and I'll email them to you, or find some place to post them.

The IGBP is a wonderful, selfless effort to help gay and trans youth survive the horrors of being bullied. Spread the word.

At first I didn't like it

I must be getting old or something because the first thing I heard was the swearing. Then I thought about it the kids that need the message here those words and worse everyday. The Kids did a great job with that video and showed some real talent.
