I followed this election, though I live in the next county.
There was some opposition by some people/groups, but her opponent did not seem to use her gender/gender change as much of an issue.

Vicky is really nice
I knew her briefly at MCC church in San Jose, she was working towards ordination back then I believe. I moved shortly after. I had several conversations with her and I always came away hopeful and impressed by the quality of person she was. I am not surprised to see her excel and go forward.
The sad thing
is that this is news at all, why shouldn't transgender people be able to do anything anyone else can do - except give birth? Roll on civilisation...
